Redrawing the electoral maps
Aug 15th, 2025 at 4:27pm

There’s one thing worth pointing out about Texas Governor Abbott trying to redraw his electoral maps to benefit Trump. He can do it of his own volition, if he can get the Dems into the chamber. Now, the California Governor has said he will do the same to sort of level the playing field. But here’s the differences. Newsom is only doing this in reaction to Abbott clearly trying to steal the next election for Trump, but it’s not so easy for Newsom to do. He has to take it to a referendum, and that’s the difference between Republican and Democrat states. It’s a clear attempt by Trump supporters to rig the next election in his favour.

He, mathematically, could turn the whole state blue.  Those 5 seats gained would lose double-digit more.

I'd love to see the Trump devotees argue that one if Newsom responds to Abbott that way.

I'm sure they'd find a way to convince themselves that what Abbott did was OK, but it was somehow bad when Newsom did it back.

He has to be careful though, he's likely going to be running for President at the next election.  What he does now matters.
