Oscar Piastri F1
Aug 2nd, 2025 at 1:21pm

Friday practice for Hungarian GP has Lando faster than Oscar by nearly 3/10 second in FP2.

https://www.crash.net/f1/results/1078508/1/2025-f1-hungarian-grand-prix-friday-p...

I wonder if Oscar is holding back a little so Lando can't use data overlays from logger to see where he is quicker like he did at Spa.

Leclerc on pole Oscar 2nd Lando 3rd Russell 4th in qualifying.

Aston Martin 5th and 6th biggest surprise.

Hamilton the has been back in 12th overpaid and underperforming, Ferrari should have kept Sainz.

Max 8th Red bull struggling Yuki back in 16th

Difficult track to pass it's highest downforce like Monaco without the walls start will be critical for good result.

Zandvoort GP

Oscar on pole led every lap set fastest lap and won the race.

Lando DNF engine problem smoke looked terminal.
If Lando exceeds his allocated number of engines he will get a 10 place grid penalty making it almost impossible to beat Oscar in that race.

Oscar is our 3rd best F1 driver based on wins only Alan Jones and Jack Brabham have more wins.

Still a long way to go anything could happen for Drivers championship.

It was a good race.

Bad luck for poor old Lando though.

Good to see Hadjar get his first podium finish.

Monza GP

Redbull have new low downforce rear wing which they didn't have last year.

Oscar didn't do first practice had to let rookie drive his car.

Qualifying had Max on pole Lando 2nd Oscar 3rd.

Max won by 20 seconds Lando 2nd Oscar 3rd.

I have been reading Adrian Neweys book How To Build a Car.
With Senna fatal crash he said steering column had been reduced in diameter 4mm they did not increase wall thickness which is usually done when reducing diameter.
He was not in charge of this modification
Data showed steering input pressure went to zero just before Senna left the track.

Picture shows broken steering column which is likely cause of fatal accident with Senna.

I wonder if Piastri will follow the team orders like he did at the Italian Grand Prix if the drivers' championship depends on those few points.

Good point about Oscar not getting to do practice 1.

I've noticed that Oscar does evolve over the weekend, tending to improve gradually over the 3 practice sessions, unlike some others who can be a bit quicker to acclimatise.

Tough call to hand Lando a place because of a bad pitstop. I suppose McLaren are trying to make sure both drivers have good points to ensure the constructor's title is in the bag.

Same situation in Hungarian GP last year when Lando was told to give position back to Oscar after pitstop undercut which gave Oscar the win.
McLaren need to sort this out so drivers don't have to swap places from strategy stuff up

There was no win on the line here Max were dominated race.

As for Oscars pace in practice he is either on it or looking at Landos data to improve drivers tend to go as fast as they can.
They do send the cars out with different setups in FP1+FP2 then converge with best setup in FP3 so pace difference early might be due to different setups.

Red Bull usually find time for qualifying it's well known they don't turn engine power right up in practice.
They run a safer tune to reduce stress on engine before qualifying.

As for the world drivers championship i would rather be 30 points in front than looking to gain 30 points at this stage Oscar is still looking good.

Baku qualifying tonight.

Lewis Hamilton fastest in FP2 followed by LeClerc.
Hamilton has higher downforce setup making him quicker in corners but slower on straights compared to leclerc.
The low downforce setup is needed for race or you will lose position on straights.

Oscar and Lando outside top 10 both crashed into wall.

Oscar won here last year after battle with leClerc

Oscar crashed in Qualifying started P9 Lando 7th with Max on Pole.
Sainz was the big surprise in 2nd both Ferraris outside top 10.

Race
Oscar jumped start then slowed down anti stall kicked in car bogged down he was last then crashed into wall out on the first lap.

Max won easily Lando 7th.

Max has won last 2 races if he keeps this up he could get close to winning championship if McLaren crack under pressure.
