Here's something else to trigger you.

Quote:
It should not be for judges to decide when a political protest is justified. The decision to close the Sydney Harbour Bridge to facilitate this protest is a political decision and should be made by elected and accountable ministers - who as it happens, think the march should not go ahead.

We are on a slippery slope when unelected judges start making political judgments.

Former PM Tony Abbott

I agree with Abbott and I hope they get washed out.

If they want to protest send them over to Gaza!

Absolutely.

And Abbott is 100% correct.  It shouldn't be up to judges to decide these things - it should be up to our elected state govt and the police.

The police are unelected.

So, where's the link to that poll?

I didn't say the police are elected.

Nobody said you did.

I'm just pointing out your blatant, unapologetic hypocrisy.

You believe that unelected judges shouldn't make these decisions, yet you say unelected police should.

Roll Eyes

It's the police's jurisdiction.  The State govt is elected and they are against it.  You need to brush up on your comprehension.

You need to learn how politics works, and you need to provide a link to your fake poll.

No fake poll.  I voted in it.  If you can't accept that then there's no point in continuing any discussion with you.  You've got an argumentative personality and just being argumentative for the sake of it.  At work we would have just ignored you.   Roll Eyes

If such a demonstration is not approved and is going to cause massive disruption to the general public if it goes ahead, the police are required by law to protect the rights of the general public from that disruption.

Maybe the wind will blow some over the bridge rails...

Let's expand this a little - police take an oath to 'uphold the law as written' (remember?) - so if the law as written says that the government can ban a march the government may order police to put a stop to it, break it up, and arrest any who resist etc.  A government - on the other hand - may NOT order police to 'attack' an approved march and MAYBE (correct me here) a peaceful and non-disruptive gathering... right of free assembly.

I'm merely asking to see the poll.

That's not arguing - that's just verifying facts.

You seem awfully triggered by this.

Which reminds me - our courts are like the Aegean stables - they desperately need cleaning out... mucking out and a fire hose through them.

In a ruling typical of the Supreme Court, Justice Belinda Rigg has handed down her judgment on the planned protest march, in which she said: “The commissioner’s application should be refused.

“It is very much in the entitlement to public protest that disruption will be caused to others.

“The fact the proposed assembly is likely to cause significant inconvenience to residents ... is far from determinative.

“If matters such as this were to be determinative, no assembly involving inconvenience to others would be permitted.”

So when has the court ever worked with the police on anything.  Angry

ps ... in a recent poll, 93% were against the bridge being closed.

Other polls show that less than 8% of Australians want these protests allowed period.  That was months ago so it's probably less now.

where was this poll? 'Islamaphobes r us'?

It’s now legal and while I don’t support it ( unless they chant free the hostages and end the war) I wish them  great weather and urge them to avoid any confrontation with the police.

It would also nice if the expected crowd could clean up after themselves rather than leave it to ratepayers.

Unless you can find a way to earn a minimum of $300000 a year in Australia you’re screwed.

Don’t even think about being able to afford children at that  bare minimum threshold.
