More pertinently who are the Palestinians?

Yes, more pertinent in that, regardless of their modern appellation, they are a Semitic people of that geolocation who have continually inhabited the region for thousands of years.

They likely rarely, if ever, intermarried outside of their ethnic tribal groups or their religio-cultural caste.

The Palestinians had 6+ opportunities to form a state since 1947. they refused all of them.
The jews took the first opportunity and have made a Jewish state. They defended it in wars and in the face of constant attacks.  We know who they are, what they want, what they have achieved.

Who are the Palestinians?

The Syrians, Jordanians, Egyptians, Algerians etc, etc have made some sort of a go at building a country. They, too, were carved out of the Ottoman and French and British Empires. Why have the Palestinians rejected every single opportunity to have their own state?

I think because accepting statehood would mean accepting Israel's existence as legitimate, like their own Palestinian state. They simply cannot bring themselves to do that. The destruction of Israel is more important to them than their own statehood. After all, they have never been a state (unlike the Jews), never agitated for independence from the Ottomans under whose rules they lived for centuries.  There was no intifada or martyrdom operations agains the ottoman empire, no cries of 'free free palestine from the river to the sea' while under the Ottoman yoke. Why?

Too late!

You're right!  They've already infiltrated this once peaceful, law-abiding society.  Did you hear them chanting "our bridge" as they marched on Sunday?

Yes, the bridge belongs to the people of Sydney.

"Our bridge"     Smiley

Where's the problem?   Undecided

Our bridge was blocked by terrorist supporters inciting violence & anti- jewish slogans - holding up photos of known terrorists & terrorist funder/supporter and anti Israel/Israeli Jews the Supreme Leader of Iran the Ayatollah Ali Khameini.

Nothing but an exercise in supporting terrorists.

No, that didn't happen.

And, it's their bridge too.

Not if they're not citizens.

Oh, so now they're not citizens?

Grin

You bigots will go to any lengths to try to defend your irrational arguments.

There is absolutely zero evidence to suggest that not even one single person involved in that peaceful process was not a citizen.

So how do you prove there was not one non citizen on
that bridge?

How is asking "who are the Jews" pertinent?

In the context that I asked a poster, it is pertinent.

It's common on this site and others to refer to 'the Muslims' or 'the Jews' as if they were monolithic and relevant to the discussion/debate at hand.

They rarely are relevant.

Some refer to the Arab League as 'the Muslims', thereby lumping in Pakistanis, other subcontinentals, citizens of the 'Stans', Indonesians, other east/southeast Asians and the many subgroups of Muslim peoples and sects in their diaspora.

Similarly, 'the Jews' is used to refer to Israelis, also lumping in dozens of diaspora communities.

It would be similar to using the term 'the whites' or the 'Anglo-Saxons', or 'the Christians' when referring to British-descent citizens of Australia.

You are confusing the Arab League with the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation.

Oh & what was that prior to the Islamic expansion in the 7th century?

The Jews had been there more than 2,000 years before  & remained Jewish.

The area that is modern Israel & Gaza was Judaea - in an effort to try and disconnect Jewish ties to the land the Romans called the area Syria Palestinia after the Bar Kokhba revolt.

Quote:
The revolt took place in the province of Judaea, where rebels led by Simon bar Kokhba succeeded in establishing an independent Jewish state that lasted several years. The revolt was ultimately crushed by the Romans, resulting in the near-depopulation of Judea through mass killings, widespread enslavement, and the displacement of much of the Jewish population.

70 yrs of Palestinian oppression by Israel? pfffft A gnat shyte on an elephants backside.

What were the Palestinians then? They were living in Judaea(Jewish province/state) before the Roman conquest & the Romans renaming it to persecute the Jews.

The Jews have always been Jewish.

What were these other semites before the Islamic expansion in the 7th century. They weren't Muslims.

Before Islam, there were tribal religions endemic to the region. Islam has nothing to do with their modern claim to the land any more than the British lay claim to the British Isles because they're Christian.

But on that, would the modern Danes have a claim to Britain over that of the modern British because they inhabited and ruled the land before the Normans? Would the French?

Also, as a reading of the Jewish Tanakh - the Christian Old Testament - will show is that the land was inhabited by other non-Judaic Semitic peoples before the Children of Israel, the worshippers of Yahweh, so...

Well, historically that would be true.

Modern Israelis whose ancestors did not remain in the region are ethnically more likely to be of Turkic/European descent.
