Internet Service Providers
Jul 26th, 2025 at 12:22pm

Telstra have just put my 100/17 internet service up to $119 pm.    I am on FTTH and I can get Exetel 500/40 for $80pm.
Is anyone on Exetel that can give me an idea what the service is like?

I am, have been since I got adsl1 back in 1999 or so when they first started up, member number is under 18000. Never had probs with them. Now on a 250/20 fttp with a 4day boost per month up to 1000/50(bankable. IE Can save them up) which is going to automatically change to 750/50 in September for same price,$104/pm.

I'm with Optus 4G modem internet link and a mobile phone plan.
I get approx. 100mbs download.

It used to cost $118 per month
and 2 months ago they increased it to $124 per month without my permission
and with no explanation.

I stayed with Telstra for one more month Set.   Apparently Telstra - and other ISPs - are going to increase speed for no cost.    No details from Telstra as yet, but I am hoping that I can go from 100/17 to 500/47 with no increase in cost.     My only concern is my Bigpond address if I change providers.    my @bigpond.com email address is used a lot with both government and private service providers I use and I think if I change providers I only get a short time before bigpond is deactivated.      I am changing most of my email over to Outlook so once that's done and I know what Telstra are going to charge me - I will make the change I think

My mobile is with ALDI - run on Telstra - and I pay $28pm for 5G with 25G Data and unlimited calls.     I am happy with that but will see what is on offer with others if/when I change

Yeah, changing email is a pain in the butt.

I moved from Internode after many many years (to Aussie Broadband) and changed my email to gmail.

It took a few days laborious work to get all my emails updated with the numerous places they were used.

Hopefully, gmail will be with us for a long time to come so I won't have to do that again.

Checked my Telstra Internet today and the speed has gone to 500/50.    I am on FTTH with a previous package of 100/20 and still had problems with the TV buffering.  I am hoping this will fix that.  I did download a 20 gig TV Series and achieved 20mb/s, up from 10mb/s so a great improvement there.

I notice that there are plenty of ISPs offering 500/50 from $80pm as opposed to $113 from Telstra.

LOL! Only NBN technology here is NBN satellite which is woefully inadequate for any but the lightest possible usage—I went through my data allowance in 2 weeks!

Tried ADSL—copper was way too degraded and Telstra didn’t send anyone out to remediate it.

Yes, Tassie is woeful all over except for the major cities.  My Sister lives near Exeter and is still on satellite from Telstra.    Next door have moved to Starlink with a portable option that allows them to use the technology both at home and on the road in their van.    The price goes up when they go on the road but they say it is worth it for the convenience.

I did change to Starlink and it was good, generally over 200:20.

BUT

1. I don’t like clowns throwing nazi salutes

2. Starlink is expensive and I want to save for work on my house

Currently back on Starlink for one month free, then will go back to Optus mobile internet, *just* adequate.

Aggravating thing is that fibre runs just outside my front fence—to the data towers further up the hill.

With Telstra on Fibre To The Premises here.

I received an email from them a few weeks ago telling me they were increasing speeds for all eligible plans and connections (FTTP and HFC only) from today.

They've increased my speed this morning from 100/20 to 500/50.

Still $113 a month (for now).

Cool
