French lady Michèle Mouton was the best female driver at top level.

She nearly won the World Rally Championship in 1982 if her Audi had better reliability she would have won it finished runner up.

This was in the day of Group B rally cars with over 600 hp the FIA banned them after Henri Toivonen and Sergio Cresto died in a crash.
