Paedophile childcare worker Ashley Paul Griffith to appeal life sentence

The appeal was filed on December 20, 2024 but is yet to be listed for a court hearing.

Griffith was last year sentenced to life in prison with a non-parole period of 27 years after pleading guilty to more than 300 charges committed in daycares in Brisbane and Italy over a period spanning almost two decades.

He is not eligible to apply for parole until 2049.

Yes, you'd have to ask what sort of 18 year old male would want to work with babies!

What sort of stupid question is that? Lots of people love working with kids. Not just pedophiles.

Rubbish!  Or these childcare centres would be full of people who love working with kids.  You don't seem to have much insight into childcare.  There is a huge shortage of employees in case you didn't know.  That's partly because childcare workers have notoriously low wages.  And that's why these creatures are employed.

Basically anyone can get a job in childcare - all they need to do is complete a few months of instruction and they've got their Certificate 111.  They can work while studying - can even do the course online.  They're not exactly highly skilled.  Angry

Absolutely.  It's really disgusting.  The govt must be held responsible because they are pouring money into these centres through childcare subsidies for parents.  But not expecting any standards to be upheld.  There's minimal regulation and inspections.

It still costs an arm and a leg to put your kids into childcare - esp for profit centres because for the owners it is a lucrative business.  Especially with the low wages!    Angry

Actually that's $150 to $200 per day!  What working parents can afford that?

Subsidies help but never go far enough.

I knew a mother from my previous job.
Her hubby was working fulltime and she had 2 kids , $100 each per day for childcare -
so that's $1,000 per week -
and she only did it so she could stay in the workforce because
she thought if she ever left it she'd never get another job.

That's a horrible position to be in but I can understand her viewpoint.

However single mothers on welfare get childcare really cheap due to the govt subsiding them.  And they put their kids into these centres for several days a week even though they're not working and can look after their kids themselves.  This makes it difficult for working parents who haven't got a choice.  Finding a centre that can take their kids due to the shortage of childcare workers is just another hassle.

I really feel for these parents.  And their littlies.   Cry

Aaahhh…. Now here’s a whole new interesting point to discuss!
Admittedly it seems mum’s feel inadequate if they don’t consider themselves as working …. I’ve always thought…every mother is a working mother regardless of job/employment status.
And yes, after my last child went to school full time, I did feel the empty nest blues… felt I had stepped off the conveyor belt of being a working woman.
But i have absolutely no regrets being a full time mum, shopping, cleaning, cooking, running errands.
And I had involved myself in committees voluntary fund raising for the school. Doing tuck shop duties, going on excursions to assist teachers.
Loved it all.

I think this is the catch 22 with a sting in the tail.
There are no doubt a lot of wonderful good males that are helpful, caring and encouraging for kids.
But it’s like any profession… eg: one bad apple in the barrel affects the others.

Is it that there are more males rather than females as pedos getting caught in jobs where there are lots of children?

It is an absolute scandal and someone should be held responsible!

What the hell is happening in childcare in Australia?  Why are these paedophiles allowed to work with children? Personally I would be banning all males from working with vulnerable babies and toddlers who cannot express what is happening to them. What are the childcare centres doing to safeguard the children supposedly in their "care"? Why isn't there CCTV everywhere?  Why are these males left alone with babies for hours each day?

This is not the first case and certainly won't be the last.  Remember Ashley Paul Griffith, the paedo who was charged with 307 offences against 69 children over 2 decades in Brisbane and even Italy? And yet the govt and childcare centre tried to persecute the brave grandmother and childcare worker who attempted to bring this creep to justice.  She was prosecuted and charged with allegedly accessing confidential records on children at a care centre from her home in Brisbane and sending them to a reporter at A Current Affair.

She had previously appeared on the program and said she had notified authorities almost two years previously in relation to Griffith's inappropriate behaviour towards young children. But of course they ignored her hence having to take these steps to expose his offending.

Because of the outcry over her treatment by the authorities, she was eventually found not guilty in court.

There needs to be more safeguards for vulnerable children and less protections for scumbag males who work in these childcare centres!   Angry

I remember that case! OMG it was so frustrating… that poor woman felt she had to do something ….
And I asked as I saw the news about this latest case… weren’t there cctv cams anywhere?
Now I think there is a need for it!
He started as an 18 year old… hardly the mothering type for this type of job  Undecided
Something is off… how he shifted around to so many different day cares and areas.
Police now find a lot of disturbing content on his computer.
These cams don’t cost a fortune and should be installed as mandatory in child care centres.

Yes, you'd have to ask what sort of 18 year old male would want to work with babies!

Shockingly, the govt and childcare centres persecute whistleblowers to protect their reputation. The govt has played a terrible part in all this especially allowing this diversity and equity thing to infiltrate childcare at the expense of vulnerable babies and toddlers who cannot speak out for themselves.  These children are at the mercy of these deviates.

That an older and more observant childcare worker had to be put through the mill to expose these creatures was shocking. She was prosecuted to the full. But she wouldn't let up.  We are all in her debt for her perseverance and the courage of her convictions.  We definitely need more of her kind in these childcare centres!

These centres - especially the ones that go out of their way to cover up for these deviates and the govt that has basically presided over and allowed this whole mess should be sued to the full on behalf of the innocent child victims.

ps ... and just heard that this creature's mother was the prison officer who ignored and lied to the indigenous woman who died in prison after not receiving medical aid.  She pleaded with this prison officer to see a doctor but was refused.  Why am I not surprised to hear that?

Part of the tip of the iceberg for which governments need to be held to answer....

These things, and others - just go on and on until there is a major scandal - then the 'powers-that-would-love-to-be' will finally stir and maybe do something - put it to committee or something...

Every issue out there has simple answers - the Big Question is - WHY do government not simply install the simple answers?

Protect Whistle Blowers.. not allow them to be dragged through the courts - this one was the one I said should be Australian Of The Year.

...
