Family terrorised by armed intruders during home invasion in Kew East, Melbourne

‘I’ve never seen anything like this. A family … asleep in their home, the house is secure, they’re meant to be safe.’

Violent home invasion traumatises family in Kew East
A family, including two children, have been terrorised by a group of intruders during a home invasion which left a man seriously injured.

Five people allegedly broke into a home on Oxford St in Kew East, Melbourne, about 4am on Sunday.

They arrived in a car, jumped over a front fence and smashed the window of a study to get inside.

A husband and wife were awoken by the sound and confronted by the offenders.

Two of the offenders were allegedly armed with a machete, a knife and garden sheers belonging to the family.

The couple were put in separate rooms, with the 34-year-old woman kept in the room where her children, aged two and three, were sleeping.

A scuffle broke out between the 39-year-old husband and the offenders,
during which he was stabbed 11 times suffering injuries to his head, face and arms.

“They’re not used to people fighting back, and this homeowner fought back,” Detective Sergeant Leeanne Trusler said.

The man’s parents, who were also living at the home, went to his aid but were also attacked.

At one point the wife had come out of the room with her children to check on her husband, Trusler said.

One of the offenders pointed a knife at her and demanded she go back inside the room.

“These males have then asked the family if there’s a safe inside the house, which they said there wasn’t,” Trusler said.

On Sunday night, a 24-year-old man and two teenagers, aged 17 and 16, were all charged with aggravated home invasion, intentionally causing serious injury, recklessly causing serious injury, false imprisonment, theft of mobile phone and theft of motor vehicle.

They were all remanded to appear in court at a later date.

The other offenders remain on the run.

And remember, folks, if it happens to you the police are only a phone call away, if you get the chance to use your phone,

We don't know if they were Sudanese.
No descriptions have been released -
it's all top secret.

A 24-year-old man and two teenagers, aged 17 and 16, have all been charged with aggravated home invasion, intentionally cause serious injury, recklessly cause serious injury, four counts of recklessly cause injury, false imprisonment, theft of mobile phones, and theft of motor vehicle.

All were remanded in custody, with the 24-year-old man due to face Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on November 5, and the teenagers due to face a children’s court at a later date.

CCTV obtained by 7 News shows the alleged offenders fleeing from police, who are still searching for two more males.

No descriptions have been released.

Boroondara Detective Sergeant Leanne Trussler said home invaders were “not used to people fighting back, and this homeowner fought back”.

“I’ve never seen anything like this,” she said.

“This is awful, a family, two adults, two children aged 2 and 3 and the grandparents are sleeping their home at nearly 4 o’clock in the morning, the house is secure, they’re meant to be safe, and they’ve woken up and been treated like this.

“It’s their home, or their castle as they say. You should be safe, you shouldn’t be disrespected in your home and having people come in at that time of night and doing that to your family. I don’t know how I’d be if that was my family.”

The attack is the latest in a series of alleged incidents involving machetes in Victoria despite Premier Jacinta Allan banning their sale and installing 40 “machete bins” across the state at a cost of $13 million.

When my place was robbed over 20 years ago and I lost
everything valuable that I ever owned -
I asked the cops a simple question -
"how many other burglaries had there been within say 500 meters of here? "
he said that
"such information was NOT available to members of the public
due to privacy concerns."

The cops keep covering up crime and not reporting any details.
They don't even give a description in the case above of the alleged offenders.
Do they have privacy concerns for the offenders too?

I say it WOULD be different if government  guaranteed housing, education and above poverty employment for everyone, as more or less existed in the post war Keynesian welfare state/deficit spending era.

I reckon social breakdown is well underway in modern Oz, after 4 decades of Neoclassical economic orthodoxy has resulted in a housing crisis and soaring inequality.

Meanwhile comfortably stupid neoliberal economists like Dannielle Woods are saying "change comes slowly" - while people are sleeping in the streets and homelessness is increasing.

Deplorable.

It does mean we should follow a 'middle way', in which public sector money for the collective good is created in the nation's treasury, alongside private sector money which is created in private banks  for individuals competing for private gain.

Forcing government  to rely wholly on private sector money - by taxing or borrowing, is creating the soaring inequality we see around us, as the economy churns out billionaires alongside homeless people.

Agree!  Bring back capital punishment.  Give victims the justice they deserve and the families closure.  I actually know the parents of a daughter who was murdered.  To see them on television, night after night, pleading for information and wanting that closure so desperately was heart-breaking.  I remember that girl when she was little - have photos of her with my kids so it's always a reminder.

And as for paedophiles and child torturers - why should they live in comfort in recreation centres posing as jails and then get out after a few miserly years?  They cost the taxpayers a fortune.  At least they will not get another chance to reoffend as so many do.   Angry

Homelessness and poverty are not excuses for robbery with violence and arson.
Australia went through the Depression with little variation in the violent crime rate, yet the number of homeless was high and the number of poor, as a proportion of the population, much higher than it is today.
My own family was relatively well off, Dad worked on the NSWGR snd for a time worked one week off and one week on [his income was effectively cut in half], he and thousands like him didn’t turn to violent crime.
So there is no excuse especially in these days of Government support.

I’m all for the rope when conviction is beyond doubt.
The number of people murdered by reoffenders is exceeded by the number of people wrongly executed.

Pity they didn't resist arrest and threaten or attack armed officers... could have had a nice, neat Northern Territory solution.

Can anyone explain to me why governments are so gutless scared of these 'ethnic' groups?
