Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is seeking custody of an illegal alien from Finland who is accused of throwing coffee on a mother and her baby.  Jaaskelainen is an illegal alien who overstayed her B-2 tourist visa that was issued to her in April 1999. Jaaskelainen was required to depart the U.S. in July 1999 but failed to do so and has lived in the U.S. illegally for 26 years.

I've been watching the footage of masked ICE agents behaving like they're exempt from the Constitution, detaining legal US citizens, ignoring basic legal standards, and conducting themselves with a level of impunity that would make any authoritarian proud. When law enforcement refuses to identify itself and acts as if accountability is optional, it's hardly surprising that people start talking in the language the right has spent decades romanticising.

What's striking is who they're targeting. Not violent offenders, not the people ripping communities apart, but individuals who are attending their immigration hearings, living quietly, and committing no crimes. The very people least inclined to resist because they're trying to do everything correctly. ICE goes after them because they're easy targets. It reveals a cowardice baked into the entire operation.

Strip away the PR gloss and it's obvious, they want fewer brown people in the country. That's the whole project.

And when ICE operates outside the law, violating the Fourth Amendment and conducting traffic stops in many cases they have no authority to perform, they erode the legitimacy of their own institution. The right spent years sermonising about resisting tyranny, but conveniently forgets that tyranny doesn't always arrive wearing a foreign flag, sometimes it arrives with a federal badge.

None of this justifies an escalation into violence, which is exactly what the Trump regime is salivating over to consolidate its power. But I also won't waste much sympathy on agents who choose to participate in unconstitutional overreach and are shocked when the public no longer views them as legitimate actors and they get a taste of the 2nd amendment.

Actions have consequences, and they chose their side.

He even stated just this month that most of those apprehended are “murderers,” or people the US accepted after being “thrown outta their countries because they were … criminals.”

And it's simply not ture.

If you look at the stats:

From 1 October 2024 (start of FY2025) through 14 June 2025, ICE reportedly processed 204,297 people (“book-ins”).

Of those book-ins:

65% (≈ 133,687 people) had no criminal convictions of any kind.

93% had no violent-crime convictions.

93%...

I'll say it again, ICE goes after them because they're easy targets.  They're just trying to fill quotas.

For all you bitching and moaning about DEI quotas (not a thing, but that didn't stop you), we finally found a quota you like, the fact that ICE have deportations quotas and are following those, ignoring the justification given for their lawlessness by the President.

And you just keep happyily clapping along.
