US officials believe Israel is ready to carry out an attack on Iran and could launch military action against Iran’s nuclear facilities in the coming days, reports suggested early Thursday, even as high-level talks aimed at a diplomatic deal over Tehran’s nuclear activity remained on track for Sunday.

The reports, from US networks NBC and CBS, that Israel was moving toward a long-threatened military strike came hours after the US announced it would evacuate some personnel from the region amid fears they could be targeted by Iran in reprisal actions.

The moves came after US President Donald Trump indicated he was no longer as confident as he had been previously that his administration could reach a deal with Iran, after negotiations appeared to snag over Tehran’s insistence that it be allowed to maintain low-level uranium enrichment.

A senior Iranian official told Reuters on Thursday that a “friendly” regional country had alerted Tehran over a potential military strike by Israel.

The official said tensions were intended to “influence Tehran to change its position about its nuclear rights” during talks with the United States set for Sunday in Oman, and vowed that Tehran would hold firm to its insistence on maintaining some enrichment.

Israel is considering taking military action against Iran in the coming days - without American support, sources have told US media.

The reports come as US President Donald Trump is said to be in advanced discussions with Iran about a diplomatic deal to curtail the Middle Eastern country's nuclear programme.

Israel is said to have become more serious about a unilateral strike on Iran as the negotiations between Washington and Tehran appear closer to a preliminary or framework agreement that includes provisions about uranium enrichment.

Israel views those provisions as unacceptable.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's government is therefore considering a strike on Iran, a Capitol Hill aide and other sources familiar with the matter have told Sky News' US partner network NBC News.

It comes as the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the UN's nuclear watchdog, formally found that Iran isn't complying with its nuclear obligations for the first time in 20 years. Iran insists it has always adhered to its IAEA safeguarding obligations.

An Israeli strike on Iran would be a dramatic break with the Trump administration which has argued against such a move.

Iran agreed to NPT for help with nuclear power the NPT forbids Iran from building nuclear bombs.

Those bunker busters only go deep in dirt. When there is solid reinforced concrete, it is lucky to penetrate more than 10 meters.

Israel is not a party to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT). They have not accepted IAEA safeguards on some of their principle nuclear activities. Lets hope they don't have an accident and discover depleted uranium in their drinking water.
