where we don't know exactly what is inside them -
no circuit diagrams, no parts lists, no source code, and
custom ICs that can't be bought and are only made as a one off batch

We are then totally dependent on them – at their mercy.

I agree Bobby....America first is all about screwing everyone else in Americas favour whilst the Yanks become more isolationist and unreliable....Angus Taylor is blaming Labor for a deal his Government negotiated and Donald Trump does not understand....As the deal was signed by Joe Biden Trump will do all he can to screw more out of Australia and Angus Taylor is on the Yanks side....The Coalition created this mess and are now blaming Labor for their incompetance....Suck up to Trump and give him what he wants is Taylors solution....Taylor is a complete dickhead who thinks making political point scoring is more important than Australia's defence!!!

Countries that sign agreements and then stick to them unlike America under Trump who bullies everyone
Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

So there are countries that put other countries before their own, which countries are they?.

Countries that sign agreements and then stick to them unlike America under Trump....Why negotiate with a complete narcissist like Trump who's word is not worth crap....Only a dickhead like you would not understand that making a deal means sticking to it....Australia needs to forge new alliances with Asia and Europe because America can no longer be trusted or relied upon....Full on MAGA bullshit you support....Traitor!!!

Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

So what happened to the deal Australia made with France for subs?.

The Coalition under Scumo scrapped it costing $835 million for nothing....Are you dyslexic or just very stupid???

Huh Huh Huh

Malcolm Turnbull has entered the chat. The former prime minister has been a vocal critic of the AUKUS security pact over the years.

In a tweet this morning, he questioned if it was time for the Australian parliament to "wake up".

"The UK is conducting a review of AUKUS. The US DoD is conducting a review of AUKUS. But Australia, which has the most at stake, has no review.

"Our parliament to date has been the least curious and least informed. Time to wake up?"

Possibly but who give a flying phuk what Turnbull has to say?

Just a Labor Lite flog.

China is too powerful for us -
they have the largest navy in the world -
no matter how much we spend we could never defend ourselves
without help from the USA and perhaps the UK too.

Sinking a few fuel ships heading to the country would probably be enough to cause the country to fall.

Nuke subs on the never, never will not save us.

We need nukes but not submarines, nuclear weapons.

We need to get over this belief that England or America must protect us.

Well unless you've been living under a rock you'd know that we can't(don't have the resources) to protect ourselves.

That also applies to not using the resources we have to be able to build shyte to protect ourselves.

There you go again,Brian, nobody calls the Steam submarines ‘Atomic’ anymore, the buzz word for these conventionally powered steam boats is ‘Nuclear’.

In answer to your question, try Gotland-class submarine

The Gotland Class is registered to have a range of 1,700 nautical miles.  Nuclear submarines have an unlimited range.  They do not compare all that well, Eugene. Tsk, tsk, tsk... Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

I think our beloved statesman paul Keating summed up the acquisition rather well and explained why we never entertained it the past
