Just before 1970 still in teen years… living in rural meant we had to walk miles to each others places… was a safe time doing so!
Well we knew one of the farmers daughter had a small boxy record player… us girls would gather around as she put a scratchy Elvis ep record on to play. All mono but… was fascinating to us!
Then it’s getting hot staying indoors (none had ceiling fans or air con back then)
So we went to the muddy dam and cooled off.

One of the girls had a box brownie camera and showed me how to use it… everything was upside down!

The mashed potato and gravy was perfect. They also sold bean salad that was better than anything I've tasted to this day.

It’s a green capsicum … white onion… and I use edgell brand can beans

Yes green capsicum:
And yes a lot of sugar.
I tried varying the quantities but if you want the exact taste of the bean salad you remember then do it as it says. There’s only one substitute I do, I use olive oil instead.
Oh, and….you can use stevia or xylitol instead of sugar.
And…. It actually does taste better next day if you let it sit overnight in the fridge.
Since I’ve made this…. It’s now in the menu request list from family! Cool

Geez, colours of our first house in 1976! Orange kitchen!
And one colour that was in everything… Mission Brown!
Green was also another popular colour.
I would’ve preferred green.
