Teenagers charged over alleged gang brawl at Melbourne mall | ABC NEWS

May 26, 2025

Two boys aged 15 and 16 have been charged with multiple offences after what police described as a gang-related altercation at Northland Shopping Centre. A 20-year-old man was seriously injured in the incident, as police continue to search for several others. Victoria Police Superintendent Kelly Lawson says the brawl was a planned meet-up between two rival gangs.

Knives are banned over 20cm long.

It's strange -
I just checked Bunnings and they don't sell machetes but
they do sell kitchen carving knives with blades over 20cm or 8" in length.
It seems they are illegal now?

Jacinta Allan has just announced that the Victorian Government will ban machete sales within 48 hours in the wake of two “appalling” incidents on Sunday.

But why doesn't the Victorian Govt just get to the root cause of this violence and ban blacks?  Or Sudanese to be more precise.  Angry

I'd like to see draconian punishments for violent youth gangs.

That might stop them?

Still we don't know if everyone with a carving knife in their kitchen,
over 20cm or 8" long is breaking the law now?
I suppose people will be using bench grinders to shorten them down
rather than put them in an amnesty box or throw them away?

Got it. Domestic violence by an Anglo Saxon means all of them are banned. Breathing will stop.

Northland shopping centre in Melbourne was locked down on Sunday as Victoria police responded to reports of 'two rival groups' fighting each other with knives. A 16-year-old boy and a 15-year-old boy, allegedly the 'primary offenders', were arrested at the scene. Both have since been charged with affray, intentionally causing injury and possession and use of a controlled weapon. They were remanded to appear at the children’s court. A 20-year-old man remains in hospital with serious head injuries, while two additional arrests were made this morning – a 20-year-old man from Thornbury and an 18-year-old man from Bundoora
