and that sector is increasing.
Adding hybrids and almost all new cars would have some degree of electrification

The EV  market is totally owned by China.

BMW merc Toyota Mazda EV s are over priced garbage.

China has all the batteries. All the factories.
All the minerals. An enormous domestic market and will dominate in  a bigger way then Japan did in the 80s .

And their stuff is remarkably good
After they take over Taiwan they will control the best chips as well.

I saw a good clip by Peter Zeehan on why trumps manufacturing will fail.  To rebuild would take 5 yrs.
Would require a doubling of the electricity grid.
Only China makes all the transformers etc to do this.

USA is stuffed.
Us too probably as we give away all our cheap power and do crazy things like wind.

Energy security IS economic security.
We have some of the highest prices in the world and then borrow money fro. China to give cash splashes to try to hide it.

NUTS

Unfortunately, the Chinese suffer from the literally ancient disease of cha bu duo - the tendency to send out products 'close enough, good enough'. This is exacerbated by delivery-to-market quotas often unattainable without shortcuts at the cost of quality control.

To be fair, though, in any manufacturing region, there will always be a trade-off between quality and quantity.

Zeihan is right, and it's not like the Trump administration doesn't already know that... but you can't go to the people with 'we're f~cked'... Fortunately for Trump, Yankists will eat pie-in-the-sky bullshit any day of the week and all day Sunday... after doing godism.

And, as a result, I'm guessing the Chinese tolerance for their percentage of dissatisfied customers is significantly greater than BMW, Mercedes, Toyota and Mazda.

Going by the online reviews, complaints are legion about BYD defects, abysmal customer service and eternal waits for defect retification.

Cha bu duo strikes again.

You obviously haven't dealt with Ford , Honda or Nissan lately.

An EV is probably going to be more like your TV. It runs til it doesn't then you ditch it.
Battery probably last 7 to 10 years. Replace tyres.
The software will probably be upgradeable like on your phone.

So few parts that need servicing.

Do you take your TV or laptop for a yearly service?

It's very hard to get a vehicle that will go 20 years now.
It's the built in redundancy model.

Buy new through your company .
Write off over 5 to 7 years and rinse and repeat.

My triton is up to 350 k. I keep it because they don't make a manual anymore.
My BT has way too many things that ding
My cx 5 likewise.

I like them manual and low tech.
No one caters for that market unfortunately

It's all about turnover. They're aiming for 10 years per vehicle.
That should keep the industry running. Look on the bright side. Plasma TVs only lasted 3 years before you had to get a new one.
Ahh... the sucker societies of technology dependency like a paraplegic on need of a wheelchair.

I think EVs will last as long as an ICE.

No reason why not, many reasons why.
Electric motors are very reliable and durable.

China has leapt to the front in Europe.

Quote:
.........  For the first time, Chinese giant BYD has registered more pure electric cars in the region than Tesla, marking a huge shift in the European car industry.
For reference, Tesla has ruled the region’s electric car market for the better part of a decade, while BYD has only started selling cars in Europe in late 2022.           .........

The prominent US marketing professor Scott Galloway says Elon Musk’s decision to implement brutal job and spending cuts within the federal government on behalf of the Trump administration was “one of the greatest brand destructions” ever.

Speaking on Friday’s episode of the popular Pivot podcast, which he co-hosts, Galloway said Trump’s billionaire businessman adviser alienated the customer base of his electrical vehicle manufacturer Tesla – one of his most important holdings – while aligning himself with a president whose allies aren’t interested in the kinds of cars the company makes.

Galloway then cited polling which suggested Tesla had fallen from the eighth-most reputable brand in 2021 to 95th.

“He’s alienated the wrong people,” Galloway remarked. “Three-quarters of Republicans would never consider buying an EV. So he’s cozied up to the people who aren’t interested in EVs.”
