We need some global warming in Melbourne.

It went down to 1 degrees last night in Melbourne.
We are still one month away from the Winter solstice.

In 2025, the shortest day in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, will occur on June 21st.
This date marks the Winter Solstice, the first day of winter in the Southern Hemisphere,
and the point when the Southern Hemisphere experiences the least amount of daylight.

Winter has come early and the BOM predictions are starting to sound like bullshit:

BOM predicts warm winter weather record putting snow season on downhill slope

By ABC meteorologist Tom Saunders
Topic:Weather

Thu 10 Apr

The Bureau of Meteorology's (BOM) updated seasonal outlook is predicting
one of Australia's warmest winters on record.

Another winter of unseasonably high temperatures would follow our two warmest winters on record in 2023 and 2024, and would swing the odds to favour a third consecutive poor snow season.

While the temperature outlook is clear, rainfall prospects are more variable with the majority of the country having a near even chance of above or below average falls.

Melbourne down to 1 degrees tonight:

http://www.bom.gov.au/vic/forecasts/melbourne.shtml

That means the outer suburbs will be below zero tonight.  Shocked

Time to grab the Doona.

Record-breaking cold weather hits Victoria weeks out from snow season

By Madeleine Stuchbery

ABC Gippsland

Victorians have woken to more icy conditions this morning as the mercury plunged below zero across the state yesterday.

A number of weather records were broken during Monday's cold snap and the Bureau of Meteorology said cold morning conditions would continue throughout the week.

On Monday Melburnians shivered through their coldest start to a day since August 1 last year, with a low of 2.3 degrees Celsius recorded at 6am, at the Olympic Park weather station.

"Most notably for Gippsland was Morwell where it reached -3.9 degrees, that was the lowest daily minimum temperature on record from May in 42 years of data," senior forecaster David Crock said.

This morning, at Coldstream, the temperature dipped to -5.4C at 7.30am.

This week's cold snap followed weeks of mild and dry weather that has put added strain on farmers dealing with drought conditions.

Mr Crock said it had been an "unusual May" thanks to a series of blocking high pressure systems directing warm air across Victoria.

"Last week, most places around Victoria, we're looking at the first half of May being about 4 to 5 degrees above average," Mr Crock said.

A heavy frost has blanketed parts of the state this morning.

"The frost warning is for significant crop damage which can result from the frost in agricultural areas and it can make driving slippery," Mr Crock said.

At Mount Hotham, temperatures sat between -4C and -5C on Monday allowing for snow-making ahead of the season opening next month.

It's officially the winter now as it's the winter solstice today -

21st June 2025.

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2025-06-21/when-is-the-winter-solstice-sleep-affect/...

When is the winter solstice?

Saturday, June 21.

According to timeanddate.com, the exact moment the southern hemisphere is at its furthest tilt from the Sun will be at 12:42pm AEST.

What is the winter solstice?
While the winter solstice is referred to as the shortest day and longest night of the year, it actually just means it is the day with the least amount of daylight hours.

That's because it's when the southern hemisphere is at its furthest tilt away from the Sun, meaning we get less sunlight.

At the same time, the northern hemisphere will be experiencing the summer solstice, which is the longest day of the year.

This happens because the Earth tilts at about 23 degrees, meaning that when one side is closest to the Sun, the other side is furthest away.

As the Earth does a lap around the Sun each year, different parts of the planet get more sunlight than others.

Am supposed to go there tomorrow, but I'll skip it. Nice and sunny where I am.

Canberra is 580 m (1,900 ft) above sea level and well inland -
so it gets terrible frosts in winter.
