Republican House members were sent home for the weekend after an attempt to hammer out a compromise budget bill crashed and burned on Friday after five House Budget Committee Republican hardliners joined with Democrats to kill it with a 16-21 vote.

According to a report from NBC News, Rep. Glenn Grothman, R-WI, stated after the failed vote, "It’s like the last day of third grade. We get to go home."

NBC is reporting, "Negotiations with the GOP holdouts, who are pushing for steeper spending cuts and raising concerns about the bill's impact on the U.S. deficit, will continue in the coming days and Republicans on the panel will try to regroup as soon as Monday."

The failure to get the bill moving out of the committee came moments after Trump snarled on Truth Social, "We don’t need 'GRANDSTANDERS' in the Republican Party. STOP TALKING, AND GET IT DONE! It is time to fix the MESS that Biden and the Democrats gave us. Thank you for your attention to this matter!"

But Trumpy: it's Moodys who are insisting you "balance the budget", not Biden who happily lived with increasing US deficits and debt (though Dems - now in opposition - will no doubt start hammering the 'balanced government budget' narrative.
