The black and white notion of alpha and beta men doesn’t hold up because masculinity is much more multidimensional - as are people generally.

Something de Waal documents well is that, just as in human societies, alpha chimps do not rule and lead alone any more than a human autocrat does.

Alphas are alphas in that they not only have a strong instinct and capacity to lead, with the necessary psychological characteristics, they also have the capacity to recuit willing lower status individuals to their cause.

As de Waal has documented, alpha chimps are often not the strongest nor the smartest in the troop, but they have, say, an X-factor, as some human individuals do, that guarantees support from others.

No individual rules alone.

Further to that, the alpha-beta dualism has been popularly extended to include other categories such as the so-called sigma... and, yes, there are parallels in chimp troops.

The 'strong, silent, independent personality type is popularly categorised as a sigma.

In chimp troops, again as de Waal has documented, there exist chimps who appear to demonstrate all the traits of an alpha and yet do not participate in climbing the social hierarchy. They nevertheless remain within their troop and contribute to its well-being.

Another feature of chimp troops, now well documented, is when two alphas arise, each with their own coconspirator hierarchies.

When rivalry becomes too great, the troop can even split and form two separate groups, which, as in human societies, can create animosities and cause 'wars' between the two territorially abutting troops that can last generations.

The Myth of the Alpha Male

So, in a few posts, we went from "An almost unanimously rejected idea by behavioural scientists" to: all behavioural scientists agree that alphas exist.

Do you stand up or sit down to piss Mothra?.

You have my unadultrated permission to imagine me any way you would like, FD.

Awww, say it ain't so, Leroy... FD.

Just as I was getting a laugh out of Alphonso Alfalfa the Alpha.

I can adhere to the Alpha & Beta 'duality'.
But when you clowns start the psychobabble of Sigmas, Deltas, Omegas, etc. Well that's just pure TAROT Carding, ASTROLOGY rubbish for a gullible market.  Roll Eyes

Think about it dickheads. There is only x8 habitable Regions and if each one had a representation of a type of 'masculinity' with x4 divided into Alpha types and the other x4 into Beta types (to EQUALISE). Then you can kiss your Sigmas, Thetas and all the rest of the Greek alphabet SOUP, goodbye as pure psychobabble trying to make something SIMPLE more complex than it really is just to appear more sophisticated than it really is for those who use it to make a buck like a fortune teller.

Alpha is those (women included) who are the Takers of the Future.
Beta is those who are Keepers of the Past.

Aborigine women are the (dare I say black) Alpha here, representatives. The Beta males are more inclined to keep to the Past (sometimes bitterly) and all things 'traditional'. Hence why Aborigines women are more likely to adopt new change for their people.
It goes with Industries to.
Alpha Politics and Beta Politics around the world.

But that's another story for later. Some regions are Alpha political, others are Beta.

Beta Males and Alpha Females on one side.
Alpha Males and Beta Females on the other.
There is no superiority or inferiority. Just purpose.

*Schlap!

Alpha Wolves… 🐺

Do they lead or are they at the back of the pack? 🤔

Once you understand this - all of your views will change…

Beta Males: Gays, Rednecks, Yobbos & Wankers.
...the four masculinities dominated by Alpha females.

Alpha Males: Celibates, Family Men, Business Men, Romantics
...who dominate the Beta females
