The New Pope

As was commented in the media, the shortest conclave in recent history indicates the Conclave's certainty of Provost as the best choice.

As Anthony Scaramucci commented today, "As Stalin said, 'so, what of the Pope? Where are his armies?'. That was answered 50 years later when John Paul II went to Poland and, by that, hastened the end of communism".

Much will be expected of this American Pope, even if 'American Pope' reads like an oxymoron.

Pope Leo XIV is not without controversy however. He was previously criticised for not doing enough within the church to deal with historic sexual assault allegations, although he had referred the complaints to the police.
Leo XIV is considered a compromise candidate, and a centrist embracing a pastoral role not unlike Francis. However he opposes ordaining women as deacons and on other issues of church doctrine is somewhat conservative.

A conservative-liberal like Francis... as opposed to a liberal-archconservative like John Paul II and Ratzinger.

Coincidence … timing?….maybe a sign of times to impress the POTUS? Just saying. Certainly politics of the times comes into the decision?
