Nice watch, Sophia.
Here's my oldest watch which I haven't worn for years but it still works.
Wind up, not battery operated.
"Apex 21 Jewels".
From my mother for my 9th birthday in August 1966.

It still has the original strap but the glass was a replacement many years ago... the original glass was scratched and cracked and the original also had a 'special' square section above the date which magnified the date to make it easier to see.
The date on the watch also finished at 31 every month so if a month had 30 days (or 28 /29 days for February) you had to wind the watch forward at the start of the next month to get the date back to the 1st.
That’s precious and beautiful to have. Definitely a timeless piece!
I forgot to mention my mum bought me that Omega watch too but I wish I had gotten the inscription on the back like your watch Carl.
The black leather band had worn out eventually so I bought a lovely gold bracelet type watch band for it…
I do remember those watches with jewels … I had one when younger… but where it went I have an idea… things started disappearing when younger brother started using drugs …. so many things went awol…sad and upsetting, even a leather jacket I had went awol..anyway….just need to be happy I married early in life so whatever I had thereafter was safe!

Mum bought my husband a watch from Singapore back in the late 70s early 80s, it’s a self winding one… you just shake it sideways or move it about and it starts to tick.
I wonder what the 23 jewels look like in your watch Carl.
