War started - Pakistan and India
May 7th, 2025 at 10:09am

https://www.bbc.com/news/live/cwyneele13qt

The Indian government says it has launched an attack
on nine sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir

Three locations have been attacked, Pakistan's military says. It says seven people including two children have been killed. Residents in Muzaffarabad in Pakistan-administered Kashmir told the BBC how they were jolted awake by huge explosions

Relations between India and Pakistan - both nuclear-armed states - have declined sharply following a deadly militant attack on tourists in Kashmir last month

India has "crossed our limits" - Pakistan information minister tell BBC
published at 09:51
09:51
We can bring you reaction from Pakistan's Minister of Information Attaullah Tarar who has just been speaking to the BBC.

Reacting to news of Indian strikes, he said: "They have crossed our limits."

He repeated earlier remarks from the military spokesperson about reciprocal strikes.

"This attack is unjustified and an absolutely blind aggression," he said. "We will obviously retaliate... Our response is on the ground and in the air."

Here's the latest on what we know about India's strikes deep inside Pakistan today

From CNN staff

At least three Indian Air Force planes have been shot down, Pakistani security and government sources have told CNN, in the latest in the latest escalation between the two countries.

It comes shortly after India said it launched a military operation in Pakistan, hitting “terrorist infrastructure.”

At least eight people were killed, Pakistan said.

Meantime, a blast was also heard in the city of Srinagar, the largest city in Indian-administrated Kashmir, according to eyewitnesses.

Here’s what we know so far:

Pakistan’s response: A senior Pakistani intelligence source said three Indian jets were shot down in locations “within Indian territory,” as well as a drone. CNN cannot independently verify the claim. Pakistani Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif said the country “has every right” to respond.
Targets: India said nine sites in total were targeted. Pakistan said five locations were struck, three of them in Pakistan-administered Kashmir and two in Pakistan’s Punjab province. Those in Punjab are Ahmadpur East and Muridke.
Historical context: India’s strikes are the deepest New Delhi has ventured into Pakistan’s undisputed borders since the Indo-Pakistani war of 1971.
Global reaction: Senior India officials have spoken to their counterparts in a number of countries to brief them on the steps taken by New Delhi, according to a senior Indian government official.
Airspaces closed: Pakistan issued a notice closing airspace around Lahore, in the country’s north, and the coastal city of Karachi. Major Indian airline IndiGo reported impacted flights in and out of Jammu, Srinagar, Amritsar, Leh, Chandigarh, Dharamshala and Bikaner. SpiceJet, another airline, also said some airports in northern India are closed “until further notice.”
Why Kashmir is important: Kashmir is one of the world’s most dangerous flashpoints and is controlled in part by India and Pakistan but both countries claim it in its entirety. The two nuclear-armed rivals have fought three wars over the mountainous territory.

Given that Pakistan is the sick man of the subcontinent, the best hope is that India has launched token retaliatory attacks on Pakistan and calls it even.

The world seems a more unstable now with Trump in charge, Russia rebuilding its empire and the CCP flexing its muscles. Every tinpot dictator will be looking to make their next move, and everyone will be fretting about WWIII.

Plus, shooting down jets and blowing up toilet blocks is a bit of an escalation.

Can you give any information on what war is likely to start?.

Asia due to China, which country in Asia is going to take on China.

Russia in Europe, so Russia are going to take on England, France, Germany and the US, are you on drugs.

Middle east, do you think Iran is going to attack the world, again are you on drugs.

Pakistan and India have been at war for at least 40 years already, do you think other countries are going to step into the fight.

Trump loves violence.

He's a violent rapist himself.

The world is a much more dangerous place with that convicted felon in the White House.

“With Donald Trump making threats against Greenland, Canada and Panama, as well as his stance on Ukraine, a majority of people in Spain (58 per cent), Germany (55 per cent) and France (53 per cent) see tensions between Europe and the U.S. as a major or moderate threat to continental peace”

Way to miss the point.

The world is changing from the unipolar one it has been since the cold war wound down, to a bipolar one with the second pole lead by China and a coalition of states that are antidemocratic in some form or another, or at least do not see themselves as naturally aligned with the new liberal democracies of the west and east asia (and India, sort of). The rest of the world has been caught napping to some extent, and Trump is a wake-up call that we may not be able blindly rely on the USA's projected strength alone to keep the bad guys in their corner. We may need to foster new allies outside of Europe and the old colonies, based on a stronger commitment to mutual defence rather than just chipping away at trade barriers (Japan and South Korea being obvious choices). Otherwise we might see our natural allies picked off one by one.

That is why India is a challenge to us. Russia, China, Iran, North Korea and all the tinpot dictatorships are allying themselves to give themselves a mandate to do whatever they feel the need to in the short term. Meanwhile India is an ex British Colony, big trade partner and a reasonably functioning democracy and so a natural ally. So you can see how a minor border skirmish could quickly escalate. The old world order is suddenly on shaky ground. No-one expected to see a bipolar world again because no-one expected a challenge in strength from a country that is not a liberal democracy, but China has managed that without actually transitioning to full democracy. They are in a precarious position where they could go either way. A bit like Nazi Germany a century ago - benefitting economically (and thus militarily) from political inclusiveness and social liberalism, growing in strength, but unsure of it's identity and not committed to democracy, human rights etc.

What we don't always appreciate in the west is that even though we are not pointing guns at them, we are a huge threat to the CCP, Kim Jong Un etc. We do this merely by existing. That is why the CCP is so big on censorship. It does not want its people to realise that we exist, at least not in the relative luxury we do. Because then their own citizens might want the same thing. It is still trotting out the "poor starving Americans" propaganda that it was spewing during the Great Chinese Famine. The example we plant in the minds of their citizens is an inevitable threat to their power.

Donald Trump said he'd end the Ukraine war in a day. This is why it's not that easy

While campaigning last year, US President Donald Trump repeatedly declared he would end the war "in one day".

"One hundred per cent, it would be easy. That deal would be easy."

What?

With Trump in power the likelihood of world war has increased.

So you have no substance, nothing to valid your claim, its just poo spewing from your mouth.

So nothing but garbage, who would have guessed.

All facts.

Violent rapist?  Yes.

Failed to stop the Ukraine war?  Yes.

Failed to stop Netanyahu's war crimes?  Yes.

Threatening violence against other nations?  Yes.

He's an incompetent, violent warmonger.

India strikes Pakistan over tourist killings, Pakistan says Indian jets downed

By Asif Shahzad and Shivam Patel

Summary

India says it struck terrorist sites in Pakistan

India says it had reports there could be more attacks

Pakistan says mosques, civilians hit, vows to respond

Heavy cross-border shelling by both sides

Reuters Live coverage:

MUZAFFARABAD, Pakistan/NEW DELHI, May 7 (Reuters) - India attacked Pakistan and Pakistani Kashmir on Wednesday and Pakistan said it had shot down five Indian fighter jets in the worst fighting in more than two decades between the nuclear-armed enemies.
The Indian hits on targets in Pakistan's most populous province of Punjab were the first since their last full-scale war more than half a century ago, triggering fears of a further escalation of military hostilities.

U.S. President Donald Trump called the fighting "a shame" and added, "I hope it ends quickly." The State Department said Secretary of State Marco Rubio spoke to the national security advisers of both nations, urging "both to keep lines of communication open and avoid escalation."

Pakistan downs five Indian fighter jets in retaliation for India's missile attack: DG ISPR
26 civilians martyred, 46 injured in Indian strikes, DG ISPR confirms.

News Desk
May 07, 2025

Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR), Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, confirmed on Wednesday that 26 civilians were martyred and 46 others injured in overnight Indian airstrikes targeting multiple civilian areas across Pakistan.

Speaking during a briefing on Wednesday, the DG ISPR said that India carried out 24 airstrikes on six different locations inside Pakistani territory.

He said that 13 people were martyred in Bahawalpur’s Ahmedpur East area. The deceased included two three-year-old girls, seven women, and four men. In addition, 37 individuals were injured, including nine women and 28 men.

In a separate incident near Muzaffarabad, a strike on Bilal Mosque resulted in three fatalities, while two children — a girl and a boy — sustained injuries, he added.

Another attack occurred in Kotli, where the Abbas Mosque was targeted. Two teenagers, a 16-year-old girl and an 18-year-old boy, were martyred, the DG ISPR said.

He further said that Pakistan army downed five Indian fighter jets and one combat drone in response to unprovoked aggression and airspace violations.

According to the military spokesperson, the aircraft shot down included three Rafale jets, one MiG-29, one SU-series aircraft, and an Israeli-made Heron combat drone. The jets were downed in multiple locations, including Bhatinda, Jammu, Akhnoor, Srinagar, and Avantipur.

“The Pakistan Air Force engaged these aircraft only after they carried out attacks on Pakistani territory,” DG ISPR said. “Their aggression targeted the territorial integrity of Pakistan and endangered civilian lives,” he added.

Trump reacted to India's missile strikes on Pakistan under 'Operation Sindoor.' Calling the escalation “a shame,” Trump questioned the motives behind the India-Pakistan conflict, suggesting both nations were “fighting for something that could be solved differently.” His comments, coming amid soaring tensions in South Asia, have drawn sharp responses from Indian and Pakistani officials alike. As global powers weigh in, Trump's statement adds a volatile new dimension to an already dangerous standoff.

Yeah, and bigger than it has been in the last 20 years.

There's a difference between posturing and actually shooting at each other, you know.

Do you think the fact they have been "at it" for 20 years should mean it is less newsworthy when it escalates? Or do you just not know what escalation means?

Nah just go back to 2019
Quote:
After India launched air strikes in Pakistani territory, tensions have escalated between the neighbours. Indian defence analyst Ajai Shukla explains the significance of the attack and what could happen next.

The ball is in Pakistan's court after Indian Air Force (IAF) Mirage 2000 fighter aircraft crossed deep into Pakistan on Tuesday morning. India says that the air strikes targeted a militant camp near Balakot in the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. However, Pakistan has disputed this claim, saying the strikes hit an empty area.

The air strikes were provoked by the killing of at least 40 paramilitaries in Indian-administered Kashmir on 14 February, in a suicide attack which has been claimed by Pakistan-based terrorist group Jaish-e-Mohammad. Indian leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, had vowed revenge.

Tuesday's air strikes are the first launched across the LoC (line of control) - the de facto border that divides Kashmir - since a war between the two countries in 1971.

Pakistan-India fighter jet “dog fight” was one of largest and longest
in recent aviation history, source says

From CNN’s Nic Robertson in Islamabad
The “dog fight” between Pakistani and Indian fighter jets, which Pakistani officials say downed five Indian planes, was one of the “largest and longest in recent aviation history,” a senior Pakistani security source told CNN.

A total of 125 fighter jets battled for over an hour, with neither side leaving its own airspace, according to the source who detailed that the missile exchanges were happening at distances sometimes greater than 160 kilometers (100 miles).

Neither side was prepared to send their pilots over the border because of a much smaller dogfight in 2019. An Indian air force pilot was shot down on Pakistani territory and paraded on TV before being returned to India. A humiliation, he said, neither side wanted this time.

At times, the Indian air force had to take multiple runs at targets, according to the source. Pakistan did its best to warn civilians in areas it believed to be potential targets, the source said, and that the military was able to minimize civilian casualties.

Bobby I don't know how much you know about Pak v Ind warfare but the military on both sides will exaggerate any small detail for local consumption. They will also downplay anything that may throw shade on the military.

They will not go to war and all the posturing is just to satisfy each countries political parties, this has gone on for decades and is just like two siblings fighting. Most people don't even know where Kashmir is. Could you honestly say you know what is happening in Kashmir, who controls what and what the Kashmirians actually want.

Yes - if 5 jets went down then there would be huge impact sites and
at least some pictures would have got out on to social media.

If you follow CNN this is the news: "So far, I can confirm to you that five Indian aircraft - including three Rafale, one SU-30 and one MiG-29 - and one Heron drone have also been shot down,”

Now if you listen to the Pakistan prime Minister: In an address to parliament, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistan’s military shot down five Indian fighter jets during India’s aerial assault, which he declared as being “befittingly answered”.

By claiming that 5 aircraft were shot down by Pakistan (Who knows) but the crucial part is "befittingly answered", this means Pakistan won and their military have punished India for their attacks.

Shooting down 5 fighter jets is not a small detail, and hard to exaggerate. They were either shot down or they weren't. 125 fighter jets shooting at each other is also hardly a small detail.

Ok there were 125 aircraft in a dog fight and Pakistan shot down 5 Indian aircraft. I accept you believe that might be true, I on the other hand I don't believe anything like that happened at all.

But either way, it is newsworthy. It would probably be even more interesting if it was made up.

Thats the major problem worldwide, now unconfirmed reports are considered news. Wouldn't it be better to report confirmed reports instead.

Sure, it would have been great if a journalist just happened to be at each of the 5 crash sites to take some photos. But journalists can only report the information at hand, which is exactly what they did. Pakistan claimed to have shot down 5 jets. India has not responded to the claim.

I suppose it is something to do with accepting reality rather than wishing for a fantasy.

As I have been saying for many years in prediction.
Pakistan (and Bangladesh) will go full war with India.
This will be the most devastated effect of Nukes used anywhere in the world.
China is using Pakistan/Bangladesh to 'injure' India with good effect before China itself comes in for the kill.
Racism is War. There is a percentage of it being political, economical and religious. But the greatest percentage is always Race.
Like Ive said. This is all about the Yellow man destroying the Black India and White Russian (and even the Brown Middle-East) incursions into Asia as a mass racial production.
The USSR white incursion into Asia has failed and Yellow Asian will get it's justified revenge.
As General MacArthur said in the Korean War. "We are here to kick the Yellow horde out of Asia" via the default Cold War illusion of turning the Northern Hemisphere 'all white' in convergence.
Don't laugh, it's as simple as it is (when the white desire for global equality existence hadn't comprehended Australia to be the correct path).

So this is why China has no desire, nor need to invade North America or even Australia/Oceania. It's all about reclaiming Asia for the Yellow man... which in essence can be justified.

Like Ive always told you.

...the Ukraine has already drained Russia to a good effect. This also has given China the advantage it needed to invade Russia and take its resource rich Siberia back for the Yellow man.
Russia, when invaded. Will call to the USA for help!
But the USA, having over extended itself economically, is now trying to recoup its economic vacuum of debt and will refuse.

That's #3 advantage for China. No USA involvement.
Only the stupidity of North Korean could force the USA into the conflict with a justified excuse. Russia and India being attacked can not. Even Taiwan I believe, will capitulate without resistance, to China for its own beneficial future of the 'Chinese' National Party given the right to continual existence which mainland China has offered (as a better deal) against Taiwan believing the Democrat LGBTQetc Party being a better option as if it will save their arse.
So again, no excuse for direct USA involvement.

Only when NK bring the USA into the Asian part of the global wars, will you see China also go to war upon Nihon (Japan) and to a lesser extent the Phillipines.
The 2nd half will consist of Vietnam, Myanmar and the other South East 'yellow' nations opposing China.

But in the end. India will suffer the greatest population decimation of any nation. It will continue to exist long after, but more like a refined efficient minority populations existence rather than its current mass production population economy of over a billion towards more. China wins.
Russia will have gone from being the biggest territorial nation as USSR to being far smaller than it is now, with Siberia being the Yellow man's passage to the north. China wins.

What about Australia? Well, we are going to be busy regarding the Phillipines, PNG, Micronesia, Melanesian, Hindu Bali and indigenous (Australasian) Indonesians v ISLAMIC Indonesia.
...and that's just for starters beyond sending our forced like enslaved conscripts on behalf of other nations around the world.

Oh, don't forget. Islam will get it's Messiah (France) to die for its Moslem sins, much like the Jews died for the sins of that German Prophet Hitler. So Europe will be busy there.

No they won't -  MAD - mutually assured destruction.

The only time nukes have ever been used in a war was when the victims didn't have nukes.

Yes they will Bobby. FEAR is the mind killer and like a Terrorist willing to blow itself up just to kill others. So too will this India v Pakistan/Bangladesh aspect come to pass.

India will win against the Suicide Bomber in Pakistan/Bangladesh attack upon it. But India won't survive China coming in for the kill once it is severely wounded from it. Smart China.

For so long being pro Asia and anti Europe.
So too will Russia's pleas for help from Europe will fall upon deaf ears. Russia will be on its own against China.
Expect Finland to help Karelia gain it's Independence ( capital St Petersburg).
Ukraine to reclaim Crimea and it's other territories too.

Locals and an official say an aircraft crashed in India’s Punjab state as India carried out Pakistan strikes

From CNN’s Aishwarya S Iyer, Esha Mitra, Aditi Sangal and Lex Harvey
Eyewitnesses and a local official in northern India’s Punjab have told CNN a plane crashed out of the night sky on Wednesday — around the same time Pakistan claims to have shot down five Indian jets.

India has not commented on the claims, nor can CNN independently verify them.

Eyewitness accounts: An agricultural worker who lives in Aklain Kalan village in Bathinda in Punjab said he heard a loud explosion around 1:15 a.m. on Wednesday.

“It was an unidentified aircraft that had crashed. We rushed to it and sparks were coming out of it.”

He said one person died and several were injured from the fire.

“I made a few videos of the incident but was asked to delete them by the authorities.”

A grocery store owner who lives near the site of the crash said he and his family also heard the explosions.

“It was very scary. We all sat and stared at the fire. After the aircraft fell, it continued to make some noises before it kept burning. Yes, people have been injured in the village.”

CNN has chosen not to name the eyewitnesses.

A local government official confirmed to CNN that an aircraft crashed into a wheat field in Aklain Kalan village in Bathinda, Punjab at around 2 a.m. that night. He said the aircraft was unidentified but “seems to be ours.”

Indian media reports: While there have been no reports or official confirmation from authorities on any crash in Punjab, Indian media outlets have reported an aircraft crashed at the site around the same time, with one dead and nine injured.

Dr Dheera Gupta at a government hospital near the crash site told CNN that 10 people were brought to her hospital, of whom one was declared dead.

It is not clear who the aircraft belonged to.

The Abominable Snowman, also known as the Yeti, is a mythical creature purported to inhabit the Himalayan mountain range. It's not directly associated with planes in the way that the Nepal-based airline, Yeti Airlines, is. Yeti Airlines, which has a large footprint logo, does feature the Abominable Snowman as a mascot and sells related merchandise.

A bomb threat was reported on a Vistara flight from New Delhi to Kathmandu, prompting a Nepal Army bomb disposal team to inspect the airport for the Abominable bomber.

By coincidence. I just happened to be hanging out relaxing in the abode where that Yeti skull cap is kept back in 1994. Listening and watching a few monks praying. The wooden door opened and a little old Sherpa woman (nun) walked in, followed by a trekker tourist in the latest Gucci attire. The male monks kept praying as if this was nothing out of the ordinary. She went across the incense smoked room to retrieve a wooden box from under a table and opened it for the rich Gucci man. Who looked in it where she pulled out a semi cranial skull cap. He took it by hand by his right of sceptical  curiosity, examined it, then gave it back. He didn't seem convinced. What he was convinced by though, was the payment he gave to the old woman for the chance to see the 'vely mysterious' Yeti skull. In which he handed over with an emptiness unfulfilled and departed.
I laughed a bit out loud, when the old woman put the box back under the table, gave a male monk half the money and winked at me on the way out to get another sucker. My laugh brought a discreet contained smirk by the male monks trying to hide their inner laughter. 🤭

It was a very Buddhist moment indeed. Wink

India says all their pilots returned safely none of their planes were shot down.

Quote:
India's strikes on Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir have unleashed a wave of misinformation online, with unrelated videos purporting to be from the strikes gaining millions of views.

Dramatic clips debunked by BBC Verify have claimed to show attacks on an Indian army base and an Indian fighter jet shot down in Pakistan.

One video, which had more than 400,000 views on X at the time of writing, claiming to show an explosion caused by a Pakistani response was actually from the 2020 Beirut Port explosion in Lebanon.

One of the most viral clips, which gained over 3 million views on X in a matter of hours, claimed to show blasts caused by the Indian strikes on Pakistan-administered Kashmir. A search for screengrabs from the video on Google found the footage actually showed Israeli strikes on the Gaza Strip on 13 October 2023.

One video, which has racked up almost 600,000 views on X, claimed to show that the "Pakistan army blew up the Indian Brigade headquarters". The clip, which shows blasts in the darkness, is actually from an unrelated video circulating on YouTube as early as last month.

Elsewhere, one set of photos purported to show an operation carried out by the Pakistan Air Force targeting "Indian forward air-bases in the early hours of 6 May 2025". The images - which appeared to be captured by a drone - were actually screengrabs taken from the video game Battlefield 3.  Grin Grin Grin

The Pakistani military says it destroyed five jets on Wednesday morning local time. That announcement has led to some users sharing unrelated clips which they claimed showed the wreckage of Indian fighter jets.

But two widely shared images actually showed previous Indian air force jet crashes - one from an incident in Rajasthan in 2024 and another in the Punjab state in 2021. Both crashes were widely reported.

Nine news reported last night 5 Indian planes shot down when India denied any were shot down 10 hours earlier.

Was the war going nuclear?
Did Trump save us?

https://edition.cnn.com/2025/05/10/asia/india-pakistan-ceasefire-explainer-latam...

Trump administration officials told CNN that, after receiving alarming intelligence on Friday
about the extent to which the conflict could escalate,
the State Department felt it had no choice but to play a greater role in talks between the two sides.
