That's quite optimistic, considering the fact that everything he touches turns to
s
hit.

The only people sharing your view are those who are paid to.

"Experts are all but unanimous that the impact on global growth of Wednesday’s extraordinary Rose Garden press conference will be negative – but just how bad remains highly uncertain."

Trump won't be in power for very long. His successor will be in a good position to negotiate whatever trade deals Trump does not do himself. China is the only likely hold-out.

Your quote does not appear to distinguish between short and long term impact. Obviously there is no denying a short term negative impact, as it has already happened.

Hi FD. How is it possible to obtain a positive long term impact when the rest of the world is responding with reciprocal tariffs?

That's a question. Up for an answer?

That's not how the rest of the world is responding. Many countries are offering to remove tariffs and subsidies. Trump may tip the balance in countries that have always been politically hamstrung in their efforts to remove subsidies. I am hoping it brings about the end to farming subsidies in particular. I think the US and the EU have a lot of them.

The CCP would obviously prefer to crap on it's own plate than negotiate with Trump, but hopefully they end up isolated as a result.

I see. So you're hoping DL's tariffs bring about an end to US agriculture subsidies, are you?

Strange. During DL's first term, he paid all the money he collected in tariffs out in increased farm subsidies. Why didn't he just not do tariffs to begin with?

And a supplementary if I may: if DL has all these secret aims for tariffing us, why doesn't he just say what they are?

Wouldn't you think the first tactic in a negotiation is to say what it is you want?

And another, if you're really into free trade and everything, why do you support the biggest tax on trade since the reign of Queen Victoria?

Cheers.

Mebbe read what Trump actually says, rather than just the ABC/Granuiad spin on it.  Could clear up much of the fog between your ears, son of Lahore.

Try.

All good. So let's try. When asked by Maria Bartiromo on Fox Business why he was doing tariffs, DL said, and I quote, because we can.

When pushed on this, asking why he was tariffing Canada, a country he entered into a free trade agreement with, he said, because they're nasty.

That's all. If you have any additional explanation, dear chap, do feel free to provide it here.

If you'd prefer to throw a Paki hissy, you're free to do that too.

You are not quoting honestly, son of Pakistan. But you never speak honestly, so no surprise there.

ALL presidents CAN force a better trade deal, by imposng tariffs on recalcitrant and rippers-offers, or otherwise. But only one has actually had the determination to make it an election issue and then, when elected on what he promised, actually follow through and get a better deal.

Sorry, old chap, where's your explanation?

Look, why don't you just say what you really think? Just express what's on your mind, that's the ticket.

Rollmops, pickled walnuts, your mormor's cheese, and oh -

A nice big Paki Bollocks for old time's sake.

You suggested DL's tariffs could benefit the global economy in the long term, FD.

We said, oh? DL's tariffs just crashed the global economy in the short term. How could they make improvements in the long?

Not sure, you said. You hope they lead to an end to tariffs and subsidies.

That's interesting, but I'm curious. DL says tariffs are the most beautiful word in the English language. He's said he could get rid of income taxes and replace them with tariffs. As for subsidies, he's spent his career as a property developer collecting them. He puts cows on his golf courses to collect agricultural rebates. He's buried his ex-wife on a golf course to collect a tax write-off there too.

So I ask you this. Why would DL usher in an end to tariffs and subsidies? Every utterance, statement, tweet, word and deed he's ever made or done has been about isolationism and protectionism.

At what point do you think DL will depart from his lifelong views and suddenly support free trade?

Cheers.

It gives the US a bargaining chip they did not have before. Apologies, I did not think this needed an explanation.

Some are beginning to wake up, but, predictably, only through the crucible of personal suffering. Utterly bereft of empathy, they’ve been impervious to reason, unable to grasp the consequences until their own discomfort slices through the fog of propaganda and the rituals of their cult-like obedience,
