Smelters produce 20–80 tonnes CO2 per tonne of nickel.
Nickel: 43 kg in battery of EV. is .8- 3.2 tons CO2.
Petrol passenger vehicle emits about 4.6 metric tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) per year.
[.8 - 3.2 is less than 4.6]

SO2 releases can be as high as 4 metric tons of sulfur dioxide per metric ton of nickel produced.
There is .16- .6 ton SO2 in EV battery.
Road vehicles in the United States released 11000 tons of sulfur dioxide (SO₂) in 2023.
In 2022, there were approximately 283.4 million vehicles registered in the United States.
11000kg SO2 in 283000 cars. 25kg each car. = .025 ton SO2.
[.16 -.6 is more than .025]
The amount is equal for a petrol car in 6 to 24 years.

CO2 is a greenhouse gas but SO2 is not. 'SO2 is released naturally through volcanic activity and forest fires, but human activities, such as burning fossil fuels and industrial processes, are significant sources.'

I won't be buying an electric car - stick with my turbo diesel SUV ... economical and clean. I use fuel additives and such, keep it smick. Maybe the NT government could do some tests for arsenic and nickel and such levels without reason. Never forget Maralinga and the prevailing winds... we all copped some of it in my generation - and I read up on it years ago as a young larrikin - Strontium 90, an isotope of Calcium, lodges in 'hot spots' in growing children's bodies... and we drank a lot of milk then, ate a lot of coon cheese and such...

The Eld Gel has a sudden drop in red blood cell count and it persists despite transfusions of primarily red blood cells... I'm thinking.... there are causes not involving leukemia - that small clump of dormant leukemia cells was my province...

Tasmania sounds good again.... though I hear it has a felonious Monk ...
