DAILY MAIL AUSTRALIA
4 April 2025

The Greens claim high immigration is not the cause of soaring house prices or Australia's rental crisis - but says it is actually down to negative gearing.

The median capital city house price of $1.014million requires someone to earn $156,000 just to get a mortgage with a 20 per cent deposit.

Do you think anyone believes the bullshit from the Greens?

The problem is supply and demand.

People are paying the prices the demand is there supply isn't

We built less than 200K new homes last year while bringing in over 400K people.

With those less than 200K new homes how many were knockdowns and rebuild which isn't increasing number of homes?

In 2021, Australia had 10.85 million private dwellings.
Here's a more detailed breakdown:

Total Dwellings: The 2021 Census counted 10,852,208 private dwellings.
    Dwelling Type Breakdown:
        70% were separate houses.
        13% were townhouses.
        16% were apartments.

Unoccupied Dwellings: There were 1,043,776 unoccupied dwellings on Census Night.

Occupied Dwellings: 9,808,435 were occupied private dwellings.

Average Household Size: The average household size was 2.52 people per dwelling.

Households: There were 9.275 million households in Australia.

Meanwhile:

On any given night, 122,494 people in Australia are experiencing homelessness (ABS Census 2021). One in seven people experiencing homelessness are children under 12 (ABS Census 2021). 23 per cent of people experiencing homelessness (almost one in 4) are children and young people between 12 and 24 (ABS Census 2021).

cause it was all fine and dandy before labor won office, right? you dumbarse Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy ...

twice labor tried to fix the housing problem and twice they lost an election for it. Made worse by the libs determination to cut tafe, leading to skills shortages right across the sector. The housing crisis is a result of decades of libs in government. Mr potato's plan to allow first home buyers to use their super is only going to exacerbate the problem. Roll Eyes

Yeah, THAT'S why they lost two elections. Sure, lets go with that!  Roll Eyes

It's really simple ... demand for housing is twice the supply and that is down to very high numbers of immigrants.

The "natural birthrate" is very low.

Wrong. There are far more empty houses than homeless.

Up to half of Chinese buyers leave apartments vacant

A quarter of Chinese buying property overseas leave their apartments vacant and the majority pay for their purchase with cash, a survey of mainland Chinese customers by investment bank UBS shows.

Another 25 per cent of overseas property owners use their home on a temporary basis, suggesting about half of the overseas properties owned by mainland Chinese were not fully utilised, the bi-annual survey suggests.

I'm sorry, i must be mistaken but you appear to be claiming that Chinese investors own 10% of Australia's residences?

Only the empty ones bought via investment.

Approximately 10% of Australian residences are unoccupied. Around a million.

The maths couldn't be easier.

Are you claiming, like Frank, that those 10% are all Chinese owned? That every other household in Australia only owns one property?

The economics expert Alan Kohler had a piece the other day which basically belled the cat about the housing crisis.

In Australia, thanks to very high immigration, we have demand for housing sitting at twice the supply of housing.   Shocked
