ummm - I had the feeling the cops didn't really care.

Leftists and the Ayatollahs have a lot in common when it comes to criticism of Islam, they don't tolerate it.

Yeah -
with both the burglaries the cops told me that 9 out of 10 times
it's heroin addicts getting enough stuff to buy their next hit of heroin.
But in the 2nd burglary they stole everything in the whole place
that they could carry out.
They would have needed a van to take it all.
I lost everything.

FD, maybe you should just put a sign on your door saying "sacred site", the Abos might stop breaking in?

Depends how close your neighbours are, I guess.

The thieves probably aren't gonna make a noise and break a window if the neighbours' house is only 2 metres away.

I always used to slide the window open all the way; that way a potential thief would have to break through two sheets of glass rather than just one.

And on the other side is a security screen which is pretty hard to break through.

All said and done though, if you have a tiled roof they'll just remove a few tiles and jump through the ceiling.

Bastards

A tiled roof really is an extraordinarily weak link in home security.

I've always preferred Colorbond.

Two points,
1. Glass can be broken silently and any crims worth their salt have known how to do it for at least the last 200 years.

2. Security screens can be cut quickly and silently or with very little noise due to modern technology.

9 out of 10 of the burglars are druggies looking for any easy way to get their next hit.

They will look for unlocked windows or open doors -
easy pickings.

Modern technology?

Battery powered electric drills, ditto angle grinders.

Older stuff, manual bolt cutters, child’s play on aluminium screens and silent.

One thing to remember about safety screens is that they should be easily removed from the inside in case of fire.

The necessary equipment for breaking glass silently is available from your local supermarket for under $10 and will do a number of windows for that outlay.

Angle grinders are not exactly discreet. Especially at 3am. The cops would turn up just for the noise complaints.

The best time to do a break in is during working hours.
No one takes any notice.
I remember reading of an incident in Newtown [Sydney] where a truck , with “Blogg’s Roof Repair” on both sides of the body pulled up next to the last [or first] house in a terrace and proceeded to ‘’fix’’ the roof and left after about half an hour.
Shortly thereafter a Removalists’ van pulled up out front and got on with what removalists do best.

When the owners’ returned from work there was nothing left and as the police later discovered not even a fingerprint.
In this case numerous people saw both the truck and later the van and took absolutely no useful notice.

The best time to do a break in is during heavy rain at night. Trust me. Wink

No-one can hear you.
No-one can see you.
No-one wants to go out and look for you.

Not so good when you want to use a pantechnicon
to nick a load of furniture and household goods.
