Trump and his delusions of a third term
Jan 28th, 2025 at 1:08pm

It's hardly surprising that some of the people close to Trump - and Trump himself - are openly expressing thoughts on how or whether he can run for a third term as President. The simple answer is no, he can't. According to the 22nd Amendment, "No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than once."

The only way around this is a change to the Constitution (unless he plans to become a dictator and jail all of his political opponents like Putin and Lukashenko) and that is exceedingly difficult to pull off. It hasn’t been changed since the 27th Amendment was ratified in 1992. Formally proposing an amendment requires either a two-thirds vote in the House of Representatives and Senate - Republicans do not hold enough seats to pass it - or via a constitutional convention, which hasn’t been held since the 18th century. Then, to ratify a new amendment, three-fourths of state legislatures (so 38 states) would need to approve it.

Clearly, the Democrats just aren't going to vote for a third Trump term under any circumstances short of them literally having a gun pointed at their head, so I think we are safe from another term of Trump as the US President, and thank goodness for that!

I don't think Ogles has both oars in the water.

He's a few cans short of a six-pack, if you know what I mean.

When stories start with "some people close to Trump" usually means its a facebook story for clicks.

But if its not then who are the people close to Trump that are openly expressing thoughts on him serving a third term. If they are openly doing it then it ahould be easy to identify them. The story has no substance if you can't tell us who they are.

You can say anything when you don't have to put a name to it, its an old journalist trick to start rumors and feed lies to get people to believe what is not true.

Believe it or not, Donald Trump says he should get a third term

“We are going to win four more years,” Trump said at a rally in Oshkosh, Wisconsin on Monday. “And then after that, we’ll go for another four years because they spied on my campaign. We should get a redo of four years.”

Yeah I thought it was all bullshit from the left, Trump himself said he won't be serving a third term and he told them that.

But I guess it is something for the TDS sufferers to talk about.

The second term was barred in the constitution. Trump cannot legitimately hold the office of the President today.

Why do you think the Constitution has any impact on Trump?

You're right, of course.

He thinks he is above the law, and that includes the Constitution.

The 22nd amendment says:

So, he just won't have an election - he'll stay in the White House and declare himself POTUS for another four years.

President Donald Trump said he wasn’t “100% sure” that he cannot run for a third term as president.

“I’ve raised a lot of money for the next race, that I assume I can’t use for myself, but I’m not 100% sure,” Trump said Monday at the House Republican Members Conference dinner in Doral, Florida.

He added a moment of lighthearted uncertainty, asking Speaker of the House Mike Johnson, “I’m not sure, am I allowed to run again, Mike? I better not get you involved in that.”

This is not the first time Trump has hinted at the possibility of seeking three terms in office. In an appearance last Sunday in Las Vegas, Nevada, he remarked, “It will be the greatest honor of my life to serve not once, but twice or three times,” further stoking speculation about his future political plans.
