Gardening—Abelia Grandiflora

Was at my fave horticulturalist (that means trees and shrubs Booby) on Saturday. He was somewhere around showing another customer around somewhere in his grounds so I looked around.

He had some specials on a table. I grabbed two small pots with an Abelia grandiflora variegata. When he could help me I checked the plants could withstand severe frost and since they could I bought two. Will plant them today.

That was an easy choice: two healthy plants offering variegated foliage and lots of flower in summer!

Also bought a replacement hydrangea—the original got accidentally whipper snippered—and two lots of garlic. Plant the garlic around my trees, starting with the perry pears and will let the plant go. Will also plant leek and onion  and let them go—good against fungal infections.

Other garlic, later, will be planted in beds, some to eat, some to turn into anti fungal and anti bug sprays. Basil, parsley, borage etc al good around plants.

So the trees will eventually stand in a guild with various plants self seeding all around it. There is a ‘perennial allium’ flower but buggered if I can find it or seeds of it.

Oh yeah, surrounding your vege patch with lavender plants will keep bugs away from your veges.
