Colorism is the “preference for lighter over darker skin color,” which often leads to discrimination against individuals with a darker skin tone (Yu). The preference for fair skin in China is rooted in history and can be traced back to the Han Dynasty (206 B.C. - 220 A.D.).

Anyway, there are racial gradients, differences, which is obvious to everybody and yet never spoken of out loud. There are no races of Canis Familiaris either, all dog breeds are Canis Familiaris but there are traits of different breeds. Some are even banned here because of their propensity for violence... This is in their DNA.

How significant are they though? What? Not at all, really, they do not prevent the various "Races" from interbreeding, they are really just superficial, they don't effect intelligence or anything, really. So, what is their significance? Ethnochauvinism/ingroup-chauvinism - covering familial, tribal, ethnic, cultural, religious, social, economic, physiological and psychological status - is instinctive.

It is an extension of the instinctive recoil from 'the other' and is exhibited in infant behaviour and even in great apes, and in other species that can identify ingroup and outgroup members by behaviour and features.
