Victorian Treasurer to resign after decade in job

Victoria’s longest serving Treasurer Tim Pallas is quitting politics and resigning from his role, leaving a disastrous fiscal legacy after a term that included the entire length of Daniel Andrews’s premiership.

Good riddance!!!!

Tim Pallas has announced he is standing down as Victorian treasurer and that he will resign as an MP.

Mr Pallas has served as treasurer since 2014, and has been an MP for the seat of Werribee since 2006.

"It has been a great honour and a privilege to have the honour to serve," he said.

Mr Pallas said he came to the decision to stand down in the past week after discussion with his family.

"There's no great time to leave the great honour that is high public office, but that time for me I think has come if I have to accept the basic proposition that I don't have exclusive tenure on the role," he said.

"We do need to present the opportunity for renewal, a new treasurer, a new perspective, new insights. All of those things I think are important.

"I don't believe I have any responsibility or any right to prohibit that opportunity for this government."

Premier Jacinta Allan paid tribute to Mr Pallas, who has been Victoria's longest serving treasurer.

"That's a remarkably long period of service in a really tough job, a challenging job," she said.

and led to Labor taking a hit in the polls.

Reply #1 - Dec 16^th, 2024 at 4:51pm Victorians should have complied with the Pandemic Rules and not run around shouting they had an American right not to. Which just kept the Virus going in that State and forced harsher Lockdown effects. Now they're paying for that costly non compliance, compared to other States.

What we actually needed was a Port Phillip Bay Bridge
as a means of linking Queenscliff and Sorrento via a bridge -
then we wouldn't have needed that tunnel as there would be another route to Melbourne.

All the good people from Victoria I know and have met live in either Queensland or the N.T. Now. Couldn’t escape labor nazi rules quickly enough once given a chance.

It’s really time to put forward the idea of Victoria being allowed merge with South Australia.

I understand South Australian outrage at being forced to support and guide the basket case Victoria has become,but South Australians are good people.

Victoria is fast becoming a economic wasteland of east Germany communist proportions.

As fellow Australians we must try and save the dwindling population that still call the prison Victoria was during covid 19 lockdowns home!

Games with international significance should be funded by the Oz treaasury with free money, if the resources to mount and run the games are available, and a majority of people think the games are worthy of support.

Those cost-overruns are due to the decimation of the public service after neoliberalism took hold in the 80s, resulting in governments not being able to properly manage (ie, design, cost, procure and build) infrastructure.
