I like the Royal family (who are essentially not much more than very public philanthropists these days) but wish we could become a Republic so that an Australian could dream of becoming our Head of State, even though our Prime Minister of the day is practically that (although not in the legal sense).

Thorpe could have raised her grievances privately or publicly in a much more respectful way. King Charles is not responsible for what the English did during our Colonial past any more than Angela Merkel is responsible for what Hitler did to the Jews during WWII. All she has done is make the story about her outrageous behaviour, not about the plight of Aboriginal people. I pity the people of Victoria (including myself) who are supposed to be represented by her and hope that somehow she can be removed from her seat.

Her method was improper and rude. But was it appropriate for the royal acts of invading and seizing the continent?  There wasn't much English politeness in that.  The king has no power today to make a treaty but the optics of Thorpe v. Charles will be remembered for long to come.
