How awesome is that, eh?  Cool

Speaking of pensioners, you know what else is awesome?

It only took Centrelink 2 weeks to process and approve my age pension application which I lodged on September 16th.  Shocked

It was approved on October 2nd.

And, they've already backpaid me to September 16th.

But, what's really awesome is that I still have 4 months of my superannuation pension left as well.

Looks like I'm well on my way with that "narrow road to (retirement) success".

Party time !

Unfortunately I wouldn't pay that for a pair of socks and I don't wear clothing that makes me a billboard. Hope he does well though. Perhaps he could slip a cock sock or two into his line up with greetings like Happy Anniversary, Christmas, Birthday, Valentines Day, etc. Might make his brand a little more, umm... varied.

Aquascoot must have bought about 10 pair of socks at $16- $45 to spur this kid's career.

Who were the other 5 buyers? Mum, dad, uncle, +2?

You just moved from one payment to another? It's those that need to go through the whole trials and tribulations of having to deal with them for the first time that have extended waits.

My superannuation pension payments don't come from Centrelink, they go directly into my bank account (monthly) from the Super Company as they've been doing since I retired from work 5 years ago.

But, I've had a Centrelink CRN since 2017 when I applied for a Low Income Health Card after I changed to working 2 days a week for the last few years before I retired.

And there's your answer. You've already done the hoop jumping.

Anyone can start a business. Most businesses fail.

Technically I started a business (got an ABN number) but it was only because my uptown employer required me to. They just wanted to avoid insurance, superannuation and employee protection laws.

If I lodged a tax return for that year, I might get something back. But I'd prefer to think that I paid taxes.

What kind of bullshit is incorporation? You can buy the company car, at a good price, the week before your company goes broke. The bank gets whatever assets your company still held, while providers of goods and services to your company get nothing. Employees get nothing, not even back pay. Everyone gets screwed EXCEPT the failed businessman.

Health Care Card is good, it gets you discounts on pharmaceuticals and access to more free doctors.

But the pensioner card is better. You get daily public transit for under $3 and access to private sector discounts. It's much easier to get if you're over 55, though if you're disabled it's available at any age.

I'm in Perth and the WA Seniors Card (which I've had since 2020) is even better for public transport (buses, trains and ferries).

You get free off peak travel Monday to Friday and all day free travel on weekends and public holidays. If you travel during peak times (7am to 9am and 3:30pm to 7pm  Mon-Fri) it's a concession fare.

There's also a "Seniors Week" every year here in November and Seniors Card holders get free public transport all day, every day for the entire week.

My mother and I were in WA for a few hours (off the cruise liner, onto a plane) and I noticed that she got to ride for free. I had to pay $2 for a half hour bus ride.

Way better than NSW. I'd probably pay $8 for that.

I think the NSW government has already calculated full fare, discount fare, and pensioner fares to pay for their investments in public transport. They would need to cut somewhere else, and Kristina Keneally's dreams are dead.

What they need to understand is that drivers are clogging the roads BECAUSE it is no more expensive (and it's undeniably more convenient to have your car at each end.) But cars are not more expensive. Everyone they can entice to public transport is one less car off the road. It benefits everyone to have cheap public transport.

Tech-savvy children these days are spoiled for choice in the internet age.

When I was 14 years old, we had access to the internet, or the usage of the home phone line. Only the well-off had use to both.

Knowing what I know now, at age 14, I would have bought myself a simple 486 black and white computer and learned how to machine code, C program, and Basic, before figuring out how to C++. I would have been a tech billionaire by the turn of the century.

I would probably also be meeting with Monica Seles on rare Down Under tours, wondering how to better equip tennis security in Melbourne's Rod Laver Arena. The answer: more security cameras.

I expect you remember "demos" which were pointless eye-candy. Assembler or machine code kids touting for business.

I expect most of them got jobs in game programming. There was a lot of money there.

Meanwhile other kids hacked anything they could see, and got even better jobs in computer security. Some of them got poached by government, for good pay and legal immunity.

But some of them died. "Come work for us" is an offer you can't refuse.

Hmm. Monica Seles was a favorite of mine too. She was small, but she grunted like a 200 kilo hog. That asshole who stabbed her should have gone to the gallows.

I also remember when I was 14 years old, watching Seles play tennis. I think I usually grunted a few times, too, listening to her on the portable radio, whilst I was preoccupied down the hallway.

I think I went through more toilet paper than any member of my family -- at least until my younger brother took that "Grand Champion of Kawana" title, two years running, in 1997.

Turns out that my brother was not much of a tennis fan. He had developed a fascination of jumpin' castles. He caught me "helping my friend Christine with her yoga exercises". After that, he started "gaming" LAN tournaments.

She was always sexy. It's hard to pin down exactly why, because she was always professional and efficient in her game. Little details I guess, between shots, how she walked and tucked away the balls.

To be brutally honest, I think it was because she became a contender while she was still young, and always kept the habits of a girl.

She played like Navratilova (her childhood idol) and I remember adoring her too. Sort of. Navratilova was a bit scary.

Let that be a lesson to you young UnSub-whatever. You can contribute to society, in ways that don't involve young children.
