Good to see the Kiwis weaning themselves away from the PRC, if only by proxy in this case. The government at last seems to have realised that they have jeopardised their security relationships with Australia and the US with their 'Belt and Road' deal.

An appropriate punishment would see him up against a wall, however no doubt 'mental health' issues will be brought into play.  Sad

She is correct. The Kiwis especially have been reliant on Australia and the US to do the heavy lifting on their behalf.

"Australia–New Zealand Alliance Hints at Fresh Warship Win for Japan
Recent developments in the Australia–New Zealand defence partnership indicate a possible expansion of strategic collaboration in the Indo‑Pacific, with Japan positioned to secure a significant warship procurement opportunity. As Canberra deepens military ties with Tokyo through its naval modernization programs, Wellington has shown interest in aligning its future frigate acquisitions with its Australian partner, signalling a broader trilateral approach to regional security cooperation.

This emerging alignment builds on Japan’s successful bid to supply Mogami-class frigates to the Royal Australian Navy, a landmark deal that underscores Tokyo’s growing role as a defence exporter and key security partner in the region. The strengthening of defence industrial and operational ties among Japan, Australia, and New Zealand reflects a shared commitment to enhancing interoperability, capability, and stability across critical sea lanes.”

Modern Arms Philippines article

So, the Kiwis once again want everything on the cheap!    How much free everything will Australia have to fork out this time?   We subsidised just about everything for their last ANZAC purchase I am guessing this will be no different

All he got was 2 years in detention.
In WW2 he would have been shot.

A soldier with links to far-right groups who thought he was spying on New Zealand has been
sentenced to two years in military detention and dismissed from the army.

At a court martial hearing at Linton Military Camp, near Palmerston North, the soldier, whose name is temporarily suppressed, this week admitted charges of attempted espionage, dishonestly accessing a computer system and possessing objectionable material.

After Judge Kevin Riordon and a military panel of three senior officers began their sentencing deliberations at 1pm on Tuesday, the judge began delivering his lengthy sentencing remarks 24 hours later.

BTW - where is Brian?
