Your DL's "riffs" typically come from a teleprompter. In this case, his eating-the-dogs riff was rehearsed and recited. It's writer, Laura Loomer, was seen getting off the plane with him prior to the debate, her script in hand.
You've got to get it out there, she told him. They're eating the dogs, they're eating the cats, they're stealing your pets. Say it like that.
So he did. As soon as those words came out of his mouth, he lost the debate. Anybody who would make such a ludicrous claim in a debate shows how desperate they are. Worse, this wasn't any old debate, this was a
presidential debate - a contest for the leadership of the United States of America.
Putin is said to have laughed his head off. Foreign leaders will be referencing it for years. It's possibly worse than his bleach injection comments. It's up there with saying he'd tell Putin to invade fellow NATO members - that undermined the treaty itself.
This one undermines American law. A potential US president spreading lies about people America has granted asylum, undermining US policy and immediately putting their lives at risk from his own base - it's as desperate as it gets.
Now, you don't need me to tell you how awful this is. You support immigration. Immigrants, you say, are a valuable source of labour, particularly those from developing countries, who value their opportunities, career options and education for their kids. You don't notice skin colour, anymore than you notice hair or eye colour. So how could you possibly think that a candidate who tells such lies is credible?
He's even doubled down. Not only are Americans' pets at risk, some of them may even be
cannibals. DL is going on Truth Social to tell Americans that they're not safe in bed at night. He says the people you value as aspirational, hardworking migrants are out to steal the American people in the middle of the night and take them home to eat.
He's made this the central issue of his campaign. Just think, he's so triggered by having his lie make him look like a complete fool, he's ignoring his advisers and the focus-group tested polling on the cost of living. He's ignoring the pleas of Republican Congresspeople and Senators to get back to kitchen table issues like inflation. He's so triggered by the backlash to his lie, he's decided to bunker down and turn his campaign into a white supremacist call to arms.
So there you have it. The Superior Man bounces out of bed with a plan, fixes upon his goal, sets his course and advances. Full steam ahead, steady as she goes.
You were right to have dumped DL in the first place.
