I hold a regional record
Sep 14th, 2024 at 5:55am

Off the record.

For the past month, I have conducted videos doing routes of Rockhampton.

I want to know if people would approve of me doing a video of me doing a scenic route of Rockhampton in the fastest time possible.

The regional record, for Rockhampton is 5 minutes. Boundary Rd to Port Curtis Rd.

My record for the Central Queensland region is 12 minutes. Boundary Rd to Port Curtis. Year 1999.

If police would hold off any traffice infringements against me for the 15th of September, I could try to break my record.

Video uploaded, if requested.

In 1976, a French national did a suburban to Tower run in under 9 minutes.

I did my run through Rockhampton in 11 minutes 44 seconds.

You probably heard police radio talking about me trying to break my 19 year old record. I achieved that last night. 17:19. Breaking my old record of 17:44. Gomersall Rd to Port Curtis via the "scenic route".

For point of reference, I set a rule to not use the highway to get across town. The other rule is to not go above 10km/h over the speed limit. Otherwise, I would actually get pulled over. The only risk I run is a noise complaint, or swerving over the road.

Map a run across town. Starting from Gomersall Rd/Boundary Rd intersection, I would make my way across the backstreets of the town. The finishing point is Fiddes and Harvey St, Port Curtis.

You on the piss again?

You're definitely an idiot.

Why would you think it even feasible to be trying to break a speed record - in a vehicle in a built up area & hope the Police don't catch & fine you for speeding?

The DF 41 missile road-speed is Mach 25,  31,000 kmh.
Space capsule re-entry hits 28,000kmh and can do across  Rockhampton and back again in about 3 seconds.

I was on the piss again, when I wrote this topic. But I was on the wagon (technically) when I did my speed runs.

If you can do 44 in a 40 zone; or 55 in a 50 zone; or 66 in a 60 zone, the police don't bother with their revenue fundraisers. Most (95%) of those traffic infringement fines goes towards state government revenue. The remainder goes to the police officers issuing the fine. It keeps the police officers honest in doing their jobs professionally. But, if the officer fines a driver for doing less than 10kmh over the speed limit, the driver challenges that in court.

To answer your question, Gnads: My rule for breaking a speed record is to not do anymore than 10kmh over the speed limit. Otherwise, I penalise myself every second driving more than 10kmh hour over the speed limit.

That 17:27 (or whatever it was) included penalties along Reaney St and some back streets near the industrial estate. But I got it right going over the Fitzroy Bridge. Bolsolver had me stuffed, as I had to wait for traffic.

Better than when I tried to do the 17:44 in 2005. Penalties galore there.

Let's just say that in 2001, my dash camera was yet to be installed. But I did manage to get a similar route done in about 12 minutes. That is why the police target my vehicle.

It's quicker using the direct route as the crow flies:

I understand the serious undertones of this topic. But, my personal record is only bettered by Peter Brock and a few other invitees (including a local police officer -- pursuit team).

Try mapping an arterial road route through Rockhampton -- from Gomersall Rd to Port Curtis Rd, without using anything more than the bridges as a main thoroughfare. If you make it there in under 18 minutes, you have done about 110% of the speed limit at most.

You might be done inside 90 seconds. But most people know that the fastest you could travel from Boundary Rd to Port Curtis would be about 2 minutes 30 in a supercharged vehicle.

Why is the land speed record only 800kmh in Australia? Are the drivers here in Oz just a bunch of "chicken dung"?

'Andy Green of US drove a twin turbofan car at 1,227 km/h in 1997 and it exceeded the sound barrier of 1,235 km/h at Mach 1.016'.
This proves: 1). Yanks can't read maps or do maths.
2).  You get booked for loud exhaust if you break the sound barrier in Rockhampton.

1. Yanks don't need to read maps or do maths. They have it all mapped out for them on their pristine highways.

2. If I tried to break the sound barrier in Rockhampton using my $5000 runabout car, "getting booked for a loud exhaust" would be the last of my troubles.

They're hot to trot.
Queensland Police on-road motorcycles are currently Yamaha FJR1300 & Honda ST1300.
FJR  248kmh 0-96kmh in 2.7 sec.
ST    225km/h   0-100km/h  3.5s.

I would race down Musgrave Street in my old rustbucket, back in the 1990s. I was on my way home from work, and the drug dealers/car enthusiasts of the time would always race down the street from Elphinstone to High Street.

It came down to a matter of who could drag race their car the fastest. When I was 18 years old, I decided to race my co-worker to work, doing High Street to Elphinstone. That was back in the day when police were still doing manual radar. I got told to slow down a few times. But the police insisted that I was still going too fast for the 60 kmh zone.

Decided to do 50 kmh an hour from Elphinstone to my workplace. I worked on Little Musgrave Street near a tyre autoshop. Oh, alright... I worked at the bowling alley. Parked my car undercover many times. Many needles littered around the car park.

2022, I have yet to see many sharps, since they put in a set of cameras.

Why is the land speed record only 800kmh in Australia? Are the drivers here in Oz just a bunch of "chicken dung"?

They're hot to trot.
Queensland Police on-road motorcycles are currently Yamaha FJR1300 & Honda ST1300.
FJR  248kmh 0-96kmh in 2.7 sec.
ST    225km/h   0-100km/h  3.5s.

Got pulled over by a police officer who said that I should not be parking in a bus zone. I did not realise that they had a bus service at 8pm. Uber drivers beware.

And what has that got to do with speed records of 800+ kmh?

With gambling, chances are you lose. How much are you paying yearly for unusual driving behaviour?

You say 'chicken dung'. But it leaves the highway patrol behind in your dust.

My unruly driving behaviour costs me about $100 per year. However, precision, controlled driving and general car maintainance generally eats up that cost error quite substantially. My drive to Yeppoon yesterday cost me about $50 in total, given the fuel and my expenses at the Main beach. Oh, and I also bought a wet pack from the shaver shop to get a shave down at the beach.

I will admit that my videos have probably cost me about $250 in fuel and maintainence costs, in addition.

Were you proposing that I try to beat the national land speed record?

Yes. The police need to know what they're dealing with.

I could do 810 on that stretch of road in South Australia. Whom? What do you think of that?

Turn left to Lake Gairdner off the A87 on the Salt Scenic Route.
Avoid sharp bends, stray dogs and low-flying cars.

I was thinking the 146km straight road of the Eyre Highway. Unlimited speed there. But, I suppose the salt flats could be doable.
