His biggest fault that I can think of is the tariffs.

The standard trope here is a dictator starting a war to distract the public from their human rights abuses, poor economic management etc at home. What Trump is ding is the opposite.

The tariffs are almost certainly an attempt to break the back of American hyper-consumerism of foreign goods.

The distraction is Trump's claim that he is hitting the targeted countries' citizens with higher costs of their own goods.

Who told you that?

That doesn't even make sense. Who do you think is being distracted by this, and what is Trump trying to distract them from?

Trump is doing exactly what he has been saying for 8 year. Tariffs, border security, America first.
Now he is less frustrated and nobbled by the Dems, never Trumper republicans and the administrative state, although they are still trying.  There is no distraction. Nor is it a smooth ride.

I think Frank has it right. The tariffs are the main issue, and Trump is not making any effort to distract people from them.

Feel free to offer your opinion on the matters, by all means.

American hyper-consumerism is the reason for the trade disparities between the US and other countries. Trump, himself, referred to that when he ranted about the number of dolls and pencils American kids have.

Whether the distraction worked or not, and it worked for many who posted online about it, but that doesn't mean that Trump wasn't attempting to distract in the first place.

And all his talk about how he's forcing higher prices on the trading countries' citizens with tariffs?

I had not even noticed that, and I doubt many American voters care about the citizens of other countries. Trump says a lot of crap, but it has neither the intention nor the effect of distracting people from tariffs or any other real issues he has created. People pay more attention, not less. Nobody here cared what Obama did or said, but they hang of every word and action from Trump.

Another 'I didn't know' moment for you, then.

His distraction from the tariffs' target - the local consumer- did not fly for long with most, that's true... but he plugged it for all it was worth at the time, then, I'd guess out of frustration with his base not really buying it, he pivoted to ranting about dolls and pencils.

"I am going to put tariffs on other countries coming into our country, and that has nothing to do with taxes to us. That is a tax on another country,”

“It’s not a tax on the middle class. It’s a tax on another country.”

“it’s not going to be a cost to you, it’s going to be a cost to another country.”

This reminds me of all the wacky things you claim Gary Stevensen said.

Well, Trump said them, as Stevenson did.

Yes, I can see what Trump said, now that you have quoted him, but I cannot see the link to what you claimed he said.

Can you tell the difference?

You have done a good job of convincing me that Stevensen is not as stupid as you make him out. It's just another of your delusions that everyone agrees with you.

Yes, I know you think that 'tax on countries' is not a 'tax on the citizens' of those countries... of course you do... 'cos y'know as an autistic... 'taxes pay themselves'.

Do you see how you show your autism when you post?

Are you now aware that admitting that you don't understand even the basics in politics is a recommendation?

What motivated you to start a politics forum?
