Had to pull a bearing today, the trailer bearing was making a noise and I decided to replace it.

Now, I have replaced many, many bearings in my life, generally using punches, brass dollies and hammers to remove and replace them.
But I decided that, for once, I'd me more civilized and buy myself a hydraulic garage press.
Again, I have used industrial sized presses over the years and when I was a tradesman.
But I bought this little toy I found, on special, a 20 ton 2 metre high hydraulic garage press.

For me it's more a toy as its dwarfed by the 150 ton monsters I used to use.
But it's brilliant.
Using some old metal rounds I had laying around, I got the old casings out I seconds.
The new one pressed in with ease.
I don't know why I never bought one before.

I now have plans to purchase additional tooling to make it even easier and also as a bending press.

Now, just to find more room in my garage......

You should find many uses for that.

Don't know about many.
But with some bending dies, apparently you can bend accurately, or at least better than smashing the metal with a hammer.
I have also seen hole punches that can go through up to 20 mm steel plate.

It will also be useful in maintaining my cars and kids cars, able to push in and out ball joints etc.
But I'm harping on the missus to let me buy a late and mill.
But these cost a bit more...like several thousand more.
Justifying them may me a chore.
We shall see.....

hahahah, good going.
You won

The problem is that you can't use that many pairs of scissors,
so which ones should you throw out?     Undecided

None, you don't know when you will need one.
Better if you clean, lube then sharpren them all.
Put them in different areas where you might need one again

Well - I'll put one in the toolbox in the boot of my car now.

Maybe the one with the blue handles?

A press is handy when you are gluing and screwing pieces of wood.
It just holds everything nicely in position.
The other way is to use many G clamps.

My carpenters bench has several securing and clamping tools.
When I made it, I planned for this.
The dogs have helped me glue up several cupboards and shelving since I built it.
And I doubt if 20 ton is really required.

Sorry - I was mistaken - I thought you meant something different.
You mean one of these don't you?

Not quite that fancy, but yes, that's the type.
I'd love the one with the gauge on top, but the cost is huge.

I have 4 socket sets.
My old original Sidchrome 1/2  inch drive with sockets from 8mm to 40mm and 3/8 to 1 1/2.
My 3/8 drive with somewhat less range up to jus 20mm and 3/4 inch.
My 1/4  drive, used mainly for the sockets for my small torque wrench.
And my 3/4 drive with huge sockets used on heavy machinery. I rarely even look at that set these days.

I have never, with all my socket sets, have ever lubricated any of them.
The old Sidchrome set is getting on 45 years old now and still works like a dream.
I did break the breaker bar a few years ago, didn't like the 4 foot long pipe on the end of it..

I do have a brilliant new tool that I recently bought.
A DeWalt cordless torque wrench, brilliant bit of gear, can torque up to 100nm.
1/2 inch drive so it fits all my Sidchrome sockets.

Good - I was thinking of a veneer press.

Nope, no use for that.
But it wouldn't be hard to set my work bench up with a flat plate and some serious cross members and a hydraulic press if I thought I needed one.
