Cook wrote that ' [New South Wales] 'so far as we know doth not produce any one thing that can become an Article in trade to invite Europeans to fix a settlement upon it’.
He bought New Zealand with three penny pieces dated 1763 and some nails and raised the flag. Not in Australia.

European explorers found bugger all on the west coast of Australia. Cook found bugger all on the east coast. But he declared that there was the possibility of making a trade outpost in Australia, so that the Europeans could resupply and trade with Asia. Amazingly, it took 30 years after the First Fleet landed before Sydney was a viable outpost for such resupplies. Before then, the colony was heavily reliant on being resupplied by Britain.

Before Islam took over Indonesia, the Javanese were mining gold in the Philippines. There's some evidence they were in southern Oz for gold. They had ships.
Ludovico di Varthema (1470-1517) stated that the Southern Javanese people sailed to 'far Southern lands' up to the point they arrived at an island where a day only lasted four hours long and was 'colder than in any part of the world'.

All days are longer than 4 hours north of the Antarctic peninsula but midwinter day is 4 hours at the peninsula tip (such as James Ross island). 64 degrees S.

'[Frederick Hasselborough] recorded seeing a wreck 'of ancient design' on [Macquarie] island'.  https://www.antarctica.gov.au/about-antarctica/history/stations/macquarie-island...

And how exactly does that contradict Cook?
