going to buy an electric car- try and talk me it

Going with the Dolphin from byd.

Absolutely love the brand and it's rise.

Love the car, it's just so zipped!

Couldn't care less if I save the environment at all. Just into the whole revolution away from combustion old motors.

Not a very lot has really changed under the bonnet since first Ford.

I appreciate cheaper options are on the horizon but it's tax time for me.

See you all at traffic lights!

In my rear view mirror 😁

If a 6 hour charge and ~350 range suits you then do it.

I wish I'd held off a little longer on our 2 car upgrades, both Toyota Hybrids.

Getting ~3L per 100kms is great, but it would have been nice if they were at least plug in hybrids if not full EV.

Lots of positive reasons for it, but not being tempted by buy a chocky @ the servo would be great.

Yes, that limited range makes it okay for city use only.  Bung it on the charger overnight when required.

I have been a passenger in the Tesla Dual Motor.  Nice bells and whistles, absolutely stunning, mind blowing acceleration, but....it's really is not much more than a very expensive fast off the mark, golf cart.

My next major car purchase, hopefully will be the Prado plug in hybrid.

I don't care if the electric range is low, it will be enough for most of my daily driving.

Unless something more interesting comes along

I had a ride in a Detroit Electric car years ago and also in some of today’s offerings, but for sheer driving pleasure I’ll stick with my 1949 2.5 Riley saloon.

Good on you
I have no idea what I may get next.
I have a problem of getting rid of a car that suits me perfectly well

Yeah, I'll get an EV when they bring out manual versions.

A good friend of mine has a BYD - it's a sweet ride.

He drives it to Albany, which is 400km away.

He recharges at Williams, which is about half way.

I've done the drive with him, and the BYD is a lovely smooth ride - I have no complaints.

But for me, I still need a gas-guzzling combustion engine when I'm the driver.

I'm sure I'll go electric one day, but not today.

What turns me off an EV is limited range of travel, and needing to find a charge station, and in our travels we look at them and see “out of order” so I says to the hubby…and if an EV needed charging and this is out of order… what then?
Also, it’s how long re-charging takes when driving out and about.
Some are fast charging… some are not.
And if you come across a charging hub for charge, and others are there before you… there’s the waiting game.
Bring some reading material while you wait.
If it were just driving around local and easy to charge at home, then maybe I will get one, but not yet.
Funny how Hertz in the USA are getting rid of all their car hire EVs because of high repair/maintenance costs.
I also heard the value of EVs have dropped a lot….

The average car loses 14 per cent of its value in its first two years, according to new research that says the average electric car plunges by 42 per cent over the same period.11

I'm happy with my 2.7l DOHC diesel turbo V6 - gives 937 km to the tank (74 l) and is smooth as and pretty non-smelly.  Less emissions per tank than the fuels burned to charge your lecco ... I also hear the building cost is huge on those things.

Not against them on principle, but I just don't see them as practical for what I need a vehicle for.

ADDS:-  On the long flat open runs out Peccary's way it would be even better on fuel.

Thanks everyone for your input.

Grapple it's definitely horse's for courses and I could still be swayed by a Mazda 2 for my city commute but I really love cars.

Money suckin things they are and normally I'm shy on new technology but.

Its  a whole new motor and power source and it's fun like driving a little sport golf cart and in traffic that's fun.

I'm also really interested in the electrical motor and drive train.

I won't say any more because apparently I drone on and quite boring.

It's a money were my mouth is shock for friends 😁

On a more general note, remember to assume that everything the salesman tells you is a lie. Even the petty stuff where you cannot think of any good reason he might have to lie to you, he is lying because he is too lazy to find out the correct answer to your question.

Indeed.

And that goes double for real estate agents.

Maybe triple.

All cars depreciate, some more than others.

Your BYD depreciation will be huge.

Factor that in amd you'll be way ahead with an ICE Toyota or Mazda
