I'd want something way safer than my first car. The car was a older than I was, the doors didn't lock, you could start it with a screw driver because the ignicion was stuffed. It was a 1970-something Toyota Corona, so it had no power steering, an AM radio and was manual.
This concludes the list of features, including safety features. She hates running on Unleaded, even with the flashlube stuff, but it worked.
The fake leader seats would sweat in the QLD weather, leaving a residue that would fog up the windows, if I parked on an incline the startermotor would come unplugged so I'd gotten used to holding it in place and turning the key from outside the car through the window, and I could see the road through the footwell while driving. While it was possible to push start it by rolling backwards down the hill, I read at the time that it wasn't good for the car given the gear ratios and reverse.
Also, if I would full lock to the left, it would start to engage the horn, so turning a sharp left would BE B B BEE BEEP BEEEP BEEEEEEEEEEEEEP.
If you could drive that car, you could drive anything and this has remained true to this day. I credit this car with me eventually getting the Unrestricted Motocycle Licence, my MR, and Boat license.
I bought it myself for $500 and had freedom when I was in my last year of high school.
Was able to get it insured for $3000 and when someone hit me from behind while I was stopped at traffic lights and it got written off, I was able to get a headstart on something better after that.
While I'll always think back on this car fondly, it was a death trap and I was lucky that I never got into a situation where I would have needed actual safety features.
It was also missing a passenger side mirror and the drivers side kept falling out, so to this day, no matter how much cool tech my cars have now, I still can't help shoulder checking, my left hand still hovers over the gear stick even though it's auto and from all those years of one handed steering while changing gears, turning the wheel one handed with power steering is a dream...
Edit: Thinking about that car, I remember being at traffic light in high school and how it was funny to pop it out of gear as the driver was sitting there holding in the clutch, lights changes and just revving and going no where haha... Kids today won't ever get the joy of that, then having to bide your time to get revenge. Or electronics in the car so simple you could wire the break or indicator to the horn as a prank on someone...
