I wonder if he had lunch or breakfast before he set out for his walk?

If you put the federal government in charge of the Sahara Desert, in 5 years there'd be a shortage of sand.

It’s devastating… he looked so healthy and was such an influential health guru … last he was seen on that Greek island walking holding an umbrella. I bet he was on uneven rocky formation while holding a brolly and maybe taking photo with other hand…and lost balance.
Hubby says the island looks like a shyt-hole!
I said we’ll be going to a Greek island as one of cruise stopovers in a couple months. Let’s wear sensible clothing, sturdy walking shoes and sun hats, but no brolly!

People tend to relax much and forget safety with uneven terrain when on holidays.
That’s when we need to be more focused.
Place feet steady before looking at scenery taking photos.

When we went to China and had a day at Great Wall… it was 36 degrees in the midday hot sun and steel hand rails were scorching hot so was careful to take steps as they were all built unevenly and steep!
I went half way up and decided to stay put and enjoy scenery from there.
I heard how some people push themselves climbing to get to top without realising and have had heart attacks.
Not me, not that day, and not there!
Hubby went all way up show off, but he had backpack with my water bottle in there.
I felt like whacking him!
He says he was waiting for me!
Oh well I still have good scenic photos from my mid vantage point. Then going down precariously and into souvenir shop for a cold drink!
Lesson learnt… keep my water bottle on me no matter what!

Odd the way he was found in this report …

Local cameraman Antonios was on the boat with the mayor when the body was spotted near Agia Marina beach.
He told Sky News the body matched the description of the TV doctor.
While watching back footage, Antonios said he “clearly” saw a man “lying down with his hand on his belly”.

Further about how…

The mayor said that the body appeared to have fallen down a steep slope, stopping against a fence and lying face-up with a few rocks on top of it.

"It is unclear if he had an accident or if he felt unwell," Mr Papakalodoukas told State TV ERT.

In time we will know if he fell as an accident or fell having a medical episode and then fell.
But in a foreign place, and had he NOT left his phone back at motel, he may have been found earlier, maybe unconscious/still alive.

Lesson is… even on holiday keep your phone on you.

True. He would have been rescued if he had that phone!  I'm wondering why his wife took so long to alert the authorities.  She didn't report him missing till 7:30 that night.  And especially considering he decided to walk back to their accommodation because he wasn't feeling well.

I will really miss his documentaries.  They were so entertaining and informative.

Sort of cardiac symptoms? So he walked on his own? On doctor's advice?

The best explanation I've read us his type 2 diabetes made him more susceptible to dehydration and blood sugar spikes so he probably collapsed then perished in the extreme heat.

As a doctor, he should have known he was more vulnerable.

As a type 2 diabetic, my only issue with dehydration is if I go without water for long periods of time after exercising considerably. Mowing the lawn for an hour, you bet I will be under the fan drinking down a bottle of water. But, if I went for a walk and got lost, I would be sure that I could manage through 6 hours without needing a drink of water.

A doctor should be able to know how to seek out help or find their way back to where they came. Something is amiss if an adult could not find out where he is when he is close to other people.

I'm not exactly sure but I think he had to walk 20 minutes and then get a bus.  But he didn't get the bus although he was seen standing at the bus stop.

I thought he might have been suffering from heatstroke because it was 40C and he wouldn't have been used to those temps.

You have considerable reserves to draw from.
