What is the 'attraction' to heirloom tomatoes?
A friend has one to give me soon.

I like romas.

I have like 400 San Marzano tomato seeds and intend to plant them all. Probably discard the weakest 10%.

Thinking of using two tall stakes per plant and maybe make cages for the Cherry Cocktail, Black Cherry, Double Rich, Blue Cream Berries and Moneymaker tomatoes.

YES! Looked at my pomegranate tree/bush whatever. That had lost all its leaves in the fall and I was worried it might have died.

Nope! Just where I planted ir there is cold enough it is a deciduous plant but not that much cold that it dies!

I saw LOTS of tiny bright red buds over all the branches! You beauty!

I have put bricks around it in a low wall to catch the sun and reradiate warmth at night, adding to the high brick footings of the house not far away. I also put a big dark stone within the brick enclosure.

Yum, pomegranate juice, pomegranate arils over salads/fruit salads, excess pomegranates can be turned into syrup, mead, country wine etc. Oh yeah, be great!

I will put brick walls around the pear trees in the eastern drive that are furthest (about 3metres) from the house, helping the delicious pears (Comice du jour and the Beurre pears) ripen into soft, juicy delicious fruits. Surplus pears will be preserved for year-round enjoyment and some shared with neighbors—exchange of favors is how things work in the country.

Black currant juice and the pomegranate juice can be preserved as syrups—high vitamin and fibre syrups, great over icecream, great as a drink with Sodastream™ fizzy water etc.

Time to plan the layout of the vege patch—currant bushes and the blueberries will go in there as well and make the raised beds. However, veges will be planted in the orchard for the next 2-3 years to improve that lousy clay soil. Broadbeans, tomatoes and sweetcorn will likely keep being planted in the orchard because they take up a lot of room.

Been emptying the front porch and emptying the trestle table in BR2 of all the spices and pantry items etc—that table will go into the front porch, heat mats installed and tomato etc seeds planted. Spring is nearly here!

Anyway, Thursday was very light wind so I sprayed the trees that had budburst or were about too with an immune boosting spray:



Make up to 5L with water.

The liquid soap is to emulsify the neem oil and the molasses are to feed the essential microbes.

Note there are no systemic insecticides
