No they don't.  A 6 week old puppy will only need to be told a couple of times at the most if you do it right

We are assuming that these are adopted dogs. Eight week old dogs will need some training before they understand that they need to go outside to urinate. And they still need guidance from their pet owners, as they are not with their mother anymore.

For puppies still with their mother, perhaps they have learned when and where to go defecate from their mother. But, things change when the pup is adopted out.
