Even though I was being sarcastic, I did not know that there was not some kind of similar pattern of wind for that region. I was saying that NYC is further north than you are south of the Equator. Surely that would account for why it does not get too hot in northern USA states.

New York is 40 degrees North.
It gets the hot Southerly winds from the central parts of the USA
so hot summers can be normal.

The United States has a tropical storm, currently in the Gulf of Mexico. At a guess, I would presume that the winds could sweep up the desert air and get caught in a high pressure system and move east to raise the temperature of eastern states (as seems to be shown currently).

For myself with the cold weather of the other week, when a low is in the Tasman Sea, and a high pressure system is in the middle of Australia, it draws up cold air from the Antarctic... nearly as far away as Monk's place. Rain in the southeast might block the cold airflow. But, a dry airflow going northwards would see freezing temperatures in my suburb.

In short: The Australian Energy Market Operator has warned of immediate gas supply risks across south eastern Australian.
The warning comes following increased demand for gas amid a cold snap, lower green power generation and supply problems.
What’s next? AEMO says the risk of supply shortages on peak demand days is likely to stay in place until September 30.

The warning was sparked by a spike in gas demand following a cold spell, a lack of renewable power in recent weeks and an outage at the Longford gas plant in Victoria – the biggest source of gas in southern Australia.

Combined, the shocks to the system have led to a run on Victoria’s most biggest and most important gas storage facility at Iona, about 230km south-west of Melbourne.

They have also sent the gas market skywards, with prices trading at almost $30 a gigajoule today – levels last seen during the energy crisis two years ago.

3°C this morning at 5 am. I was in bed at the time that happened. I had a heater in my tv room. And a heater near the bathroom. Tea lights were burning in the toilet room. The oven was on for an hour. And my citronella lantern was burning away under the house. Nice and warm. But, putting the bins out was quite chilly.

I went out for a walk at 1 am. I did my usual rest at a bus stop. Then I was approached by police for an identity check. The police officer doing the interview asked me if he could take my picture using his QLite. Luckily, he did not ask me to take off my beany for the photo, because I noted how cold it was outside the sheltered bus stop. And I was so glad that I had accidentally shut off the police radio I had previously been listening to before the police vehicle stopped nearby.

Well, if you live in the Frankston area, it definitely was as cold there as it was in Rockhampton.

Frankston beach is getting a bit of a gust of wind. So, even if the temperatures are not too low tonight, the wind factor really chills the area.

When I went on my walk through North Rockhampton, the wind factor was irrelevant. I only feel the cold if there is a constant breeze coming from the south.

Bloody hell. Over where Monk lives, it is 4°C at 8pm. It is 12°C where I am right now. That is more than 2°C cooler than this time last night. Perhaps that 8°C in the morning forecast is inaccurate. Might get down to 5°C by morning, if we factor in the cloud moving in. I will have to get my walking in before it gets too late, tonight.

I have to decide whether to leave the heater on in the tv room whilst I go for a walk. Nah, I will probably just shut the door to the lounge and keep the rest of the house warm. Move the heater into the hallway again.

The lantern downstairs will have to be lit again. There might be mozzies about tomorrow. Rain incoming. 20mm on Wednesday and Thursday.
