The Europeans wanted Russia to take Ukraine originally for economic reasons as Russia gave better deals.
But they had to turn face when Russia failed against a resistance that was guaranteed by the EU, that wouldn't happen. Hence Russia's parade into Ukraine as if no opposition. The EU wanted Zelensky out.
Now, the EU are forced to back Ukraine due to Media pressure with the only bonus being Ukraine being fast tracked to becoming a NATO nation.

Imagine if JFK was President of Russia. He would have used Nukes by now.

As a lover of history, music and historic architecture, with Russia notable in that regard, I'm dismayed by Putin's unnecessary war adventures post the Cold War.

He should immediately accept Trump's 20-point plan and get back to building the Russian economy for the Russian people's wellbeing.

The bit of Donbas still in Ukraine's hands is not worth the cost in blood and treasure.

Now the Kremlin is claiming Ukraine attacked Putin's house,; even if true Putin should accept Trump's plan NOW, before fools like Rutte can take command of the war, when Trump walks away.

And Trump's plan fails, which is increasingly likely.

It was obvious in 2015 when Merkel and Hollande started to sabotage the Minsk agreement.

Later in 2022 France’s former president, Francois Hollande, who participated in attempts to settle the conflict in Donbass and in shaping the Minsk agreements in 2015 has confirmed the then German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s statement to the effect the agreements were needed for the sole purpose of letting Kiev gain time and build up military muscle for another conflict.

Unconditional surrender?

Zelensky is the one who has to give up territory in Trump's plan - the only realistic plan for ending the war NOW (since Trump has the military muscle to enforce the plan if accepted in its current form by Putin).

That's why Trump is being condemned as being "pro Putin" by what you call WOKE Western leaders.
