How did you arrive at that question, from my comment that Xi has no interest in conquering Ukriane. (Just shows how ideology cripples logical analysis)

otoh, Xi does want to trade with everyone, even the US...

No to both questions. As to "knowing Xi's mind", I see his actions as leader of the CCP; he hates war, he even tolerates the US arming Taiwan which is Chinese territory ffs.... while half the Taiwan population also don't want war with their compatriots on the mainland.

I'm with Xi; the Chinese are proving creative enough to develop thier economy, despite US containment efforts. In time US 'defence' of Taiwan will prove to be impracticable. Game over.

So China has friends around the globe, while the US is surrounding China with military bases.

Obviously the largest economy in the world, which China will be in the next decade, needs to be able to defend itself from the US hegemon bully.

Carry on.

I maintain today's China is not interested in global hegemony, unlike the US which believes its version of 'freedom' (based on individual self-interest) is what eveyone wants.

Everyone doesn't want that kind of "freedom"; in the US itself half the population are living paycheck to paycheck (or worse) - hardly "freedom", while the developing world has observed the fastest rate of poverty reduction in history in China.
