Haas arrested in the Philippines.
May 18th, 2024 at 8:51am

It just keeps happening for Payne Haas.

Perhaps he was appropriately named because he's sure copping more "pain" with his family than he gets from playing Rugby League.

1st his older brother is injured in a family car crash that puts him in a wheel chair for life ... I wonder if his mother was driving?

2nd that brother Chace dies in 2020 ... Payne Haas built a mausoleum memorial at the family home in his honour.

3rd his mother gets in strife for a road rage incident where she assaults some one...

4th - his mother causes the death of 3 people in a horrific car crash where she was fleeing police whilst driving unlicensed.
She also charged with assault whilst in jail.
She still hasn't been sentenced for the car crash crime.

5th- his father has now been arrested in the Philippines awaiting extradition to Indonesia over 5kg of crystal meth.

HAAS’ DAD FACES DEATH PENALTY
EXCLUSIVE - PETER BADEL

The father of Broncos star Payne Haas could face the death penalty after being arrested in the Philippines.

Gregor Haas was arrested in Cebu City on Wednesday and faces extradition to Indonesia, where he is accused of running a sufficient quantity of drugs to qualify for the death penalty in that country.

The Courier-Mail revealed in March that Broncos prop Haas had taken custody of his two younger brothers after Gregor, a father of 10, had moved overseas to focus on business interests as wife Joan faces manslaughter charges over a high-speed crash.

Indonesian authorities were allegedly on a manhunt for the 46-year-old –who is believed to be estranged from his superstar son – since last
December after police discovered 5kg of crystal methamphetamine at an
undisclosed location.

“We suspect him to have networks all over Asia, and we also suspect he has networks in Australia,” Indonesia’s National Narcotics Board (BNN) spokesman Sulistyo Pudjo Hartono told Nine Newspapers.

“We have good co-operation with Australian police, so we will work with them too.”

According to Indonesian media, Haas Sr was residing in North Lombok,
and links to any drug networks outside Indonesia are being investigated.

“But we cannot reveal the information to the public yet as it involves(drug) networks not only in Indonesia but also in other places such as the
(suspect’s) country of origin and where he was arrested,” Hartono said.

Indonesia has a strong stance on illicit drugs and the death penalty remains in place for those convicted of possessing large quantities of
drugs, such as that allegedly held by Haas Sr.

There is no suggestion that Broncos and NSW Origin forward Haas has any knowledge or involvement in the matter concerning his father.

A Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade spokesperson said it was “providing consular assistance to an Australian man arrested in the
Philippines”.

“Owing to our privacy obligations we are unable to provide further comment,” the spokesperson said.

The last Australians to be executed in Indonesia were Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran in 2015.

Authorities in the Philippines are not expecting any problems extraditing Haas Sr from the city of Manila, where he is being held after his arrest in Cebu City.

The Courier-Mail met with Gregor Haas last April in Brisbane, where the 46-year-old spoke of his struggle to cope with his wife Joan, Haas’ mother, being at the centre of a high-speed car crash that killed three people on the Gold Coast.

Haas Sr visited Taufua in jail on a weekly basis, but began heading onoverseas trips last year.

“To be honest, seeing my wife in jail. What can I say, mate ... it’s just f--ked,” Haas Sr told The Courier-Mail last April. “I’m going through all sorts
of emotions. You go through a period of grieving, but then you move on.

“I don’t mean move on as in not being with Joan any more, but life has to move on. The kids have to go to school. I have to work. Otherwise everything falls apart.

“The first four weeks when Joan was taken into custody were so hard. As a family, we have gone into our little shell in life. We have nothing to do
with anyone, really, and it’s best that way.”

In 2020, Bronco Haas’ big brother Chace died aged 21, almost 20 years on
from the family car accident that put him in a wheelchair for life.

On the eve of Brisbane’s round one clash in Las Vegas this year, Haas spoke of becoming the father figure in his growing family unit.

Not only is he a doting dad to his “miracle” daughter Lalita, who turns three in May, but Haas has stepped up and taken responsibility for his brothers Hans, 14, and Geejay, 12, after Gregor headed abroad.

“It means the world to me to be a father,” Haas said.

“I have my daughter in my life and I now have my two little brothers living with me.

“I want to look over what they are doing in life and put them on the right path.

“I know my family has had some troubles lately in the last few years. I feel like it was best for them to come and live under my roof and let me guide
them on the right path.”

Anyone smuggling drugs into Phillipines/Indonesia is asking for a death wish!
Why would anyone?
Why risk it?
Do some actually get away with it to make it alluring?

That family must’ve walked under ladders and crossed a black cat’s path!
Gosh… such tragedy and grief.

There would also be plenty of locals willing to risk their life for $500. I don't see what he would have to gain from it either.

Some Australian bloke gets arrested overseas for drugs and we hear about it.

It's the family ... not just the old man.

The mother is in jail for killing 3 people in a Police evasion and crash.

She's a bigger piece of criminal shyte than the old man.

And what by the way do you think more important note or news worthy at present, that people haven't seen?

Was a nobody from a crim family like Chapelle Corby more notable?

Weird. If Gregor needed money, why not get it from Payne?

Probably because Payne has already forked out enough.

He bought the family mansion in the Gold Coast Hinterland.

I bet the old man wanted a house up there among the rain forest to be out of sight out of mind for his illegal business activities.

And I'd bet Payne has helped finance his business ventures.

So I think the problem is with both the parents father Gregor and mother Joan Taufua .... both criminals who should never have been allowed into the country.

I feel sorry for Payne. But, I seriously believe that Payne should just abandon both parents as much as possible, no matter how much it hurts him emotionally. Payne's professional reputation is on the line, if he further associates in dealing with his parents' legal trouble. I don't know what Payne is doing about this situation. But, he needs to concentrate on his profession and protect those around him (close to him).

I don't particularly care much about him. Everyone knows the law and consequences in South East Asian nations.

I reckon the next time he'll be in Australia is in a coffin.

Yep

But unfortunately, it's a problem that will continue under the Libs and Labs laissez-faire immigration policy - just about anyone can come in, undesirables even

Undesirable immigration is usually a Labs policy. They want to make sure that there is enough low-paid workers out there to keep Australia's elite "elite".
