4wd drive owners . Please explain?
May 16th, 2024 at 12:36am

I can’t care less what anyone driving but I have a question for owners of large very expensive 4wd (70k to 100k ) bracket.

Why reduce your speed to a crawl when confronted with a very small urban speed bump?

I don’t understand why you have brought the most money can buy in a off-road vehicle but you are unable to tackle a small urban speed bump with out resorting to a snail’s pace?

Why do own a 4wd if a mother of three, fully laden in a car car needs to overtake you  during the two minutes to carefully drive your outback adventurer over a small urban speed bump?

Asking for a friend?

It’s a common occurrence.

Because they belong to the Media Culture of Oceania - which in America, Australia and South America is a social failure.
Much like Religion from the Middle-East is in Asia, Europe and Africa.
Wink

They don't belong here.  Grin

It could be the suspension. Vehicles designed to carry a lot of weight and handle rough terrain (think a packed 4WD on fraser with camping gear on the roof hitting a ledge in the sand at 80 km/hr) will be very stiff when empty and going over something like a speed bump. It may feel like there is no suspension at all.

Large vehicles often roll over at speed bumps as the roll-bars prove. Speed bumps indicate cattle are nearby which can damage the bull-bars.  Heavy suspension is a must for Woolworths high grocery prices.

There are some good suggestions here.

1/ They cost $70K+ .
The owner may be hesitant to bump his new $70K+ status symbol .

2/ The suspension may be really hard, unless it is adjustable from inside.
They are not really designed for speed bumps.

As a funny aside, when my Father was alive he drove old cars worth very little and in 'average' condition.
One day he bumped into a guys new huge landcruiser.
The other owner went nuts.
Dad told him he was an idiot to buy something that will depreciate like a lead balloon when he should be having kids who in 20 years will be a treasure.

I practice this on a homeless person, usually a MAGA supporter. If I hear nothing then it's okay to be be a total asshole and not slow down for all for any speed bump.

NSW Premier Robert Askin said "Drive over the bastards" in October 1966 when nearly a million people lined Sydney streets to watch US President Lyndon Baines Johnson being driven from Kingsford-Smith airport to a state reception at the Art Gallery of NSW. Also in the presidential Lincoln Continental was Australian PM Harold Holt. The vast majority of the gathered crowd were throwing streamers and shouting the  pro-US, pro-Vietnam War slogan "All the way with LBJ". The car had strong suspension and snow plough to ride through the longhairs.

Hmmm - I have a 'soft-roader' - a 4WD without low range but with other options in diff locks.... its original suspension was soft allowing a lot of 'travel' so as to negotiate boulders etc..... I stiffened it up with good springs for handling, and they are... well... much stiffer over a bump..... and have a one inch rise over the old ones... I can still negotiate offroads and have done so in the older model of the same type - which was a 2wd....

Truth is in the driving skills....  you oughta see the ancient guy with his fancy Mustang around town here....... petrified of roundabouts and speed humps.... why own the bloody thing?

My argument with 4wds is how so many of them drive like c*nts in national parks and stuff... I had one hurtle at me on a narrow road, trying to push me out of the way - wrong ... I missed that arsehole's mirror by an inch at most... whatever you do, sonny/girlie - we old bastards did fifty years ago - watch out if I ever own a piece of sh*t like yours with a bar and mirrors that you can order to fold in.... you'll get your adrenalin shot when I just about remove your top paint layer .......... and your brown pants.... wake up and slow down .. no wonder the families visiting national parks for the snow and stuff call them 'pencil dicks'.  Get them on your car camera and report them online for dangerous driving.

Ah, Houston, we've had another problem.....
What is your problem, Apollo?
We had Marla outside on a space walk to check out the problem and she's cut loose from her safety line...
