Switzerland’s Nemo won a chaotic and politically fraught Eurovision Song Contest, triumphing in a competition overshadowed by controversy and booing over the presence of Israel.

The typically jovial event – one of the most watched in the world’s cultural calendar – descended into turmoil in recent days, as organizers in host country Sweden tried and failed to contain anger aimed towards Israel’s delegation.

But Nemo, a favorite throughout the process, won over crowds with a stunning rendition of
“The Code,” a genre-bending anthem about their journey towards accepting their non-binary identity.

“I hope this contest can live up to its promise and continue to stand for peace and dignity for every person,” Nemo said after accepting the trophy.

“I have to say this whole experience was really intense and not just pleasant all the way. There were a lot of things that didn’t seem like it was all about love and unity, and that made me really sad,” Nemo said.

Their win – the first for a non-binary person – was Switzerland’s first triumph since Celine Dion won in 1988.

Strange. I thought Eurovision has made much progress not to get distracted by Politics or allow 'political' songs.

...like the Americanised 'politics' of Homos and Trans these past number of years? Huh

Shallow and thin song for starters, boring performance.
Getting dressed up like a woman probably makes him think it's interesting.
Looks like he hates females.
Was it really Peccary in disguise?
He's a little pink if ever there was one.

I feel sorry for the confused little 'dear'....and for those just like him.

He, he, he      .....is in a demographic which has a propensity to self-harm and suicide.
......NOT to be confused, with being, a 'winner' in life,   .....i would have thought ?


demography/demographic = = the study of the structure of human populations

propensity = = an inclination or tendency.

I watched a bit of it last night.
I didn't like any of the songs.
Most of the female performers were dressed in clothes similar to bathing suits -
showing off their slim desirable bodies.
Yes - they were adding sex appeal to their songs but
what does it say about the entertainment industry? -
that unless women dress like whores that they aren't considered valuable?

Then there were all the stage props - carbon dioxide vapor streams -
explosions -
strobe lights - bright flashing multi-colored lights -
silly Bollywood style dancing -
all to try and improve poor songs - to make it more palatable -
turning it into a circus rather than a good song.
What a load of commercialized rubbish -
and the people were hysterical - lapping it up.   Roll Eyes

I've always liked Eurovision, even from a long time ago.
It's been a great boon to European Music and has provided many global hit songs and successful musicians.
But the last few Eurovisions have left me disappointed in the quality of creativeness.
Men dressing up as women is not creativeness, not artistic and not sophisticated - although there seems to be a promotion in Eurovision that it is.
There is an irony also in that although Australia is an 'odd' inclusion - Eurovision itself seems to have become more 'Americanised' and doesn't seem 'European' anymore. Maybe I'm wrong, but there really seems a lack of European cultured development in the songs and musicians. Seems they are performing not to win as Europeans, but to be politically correct (as they call it in America) for America's so-called political whims.
Anyway. This Eurovision to me seemed so lame it was a struggle to find myself supporting it.

I agree -
It was unsophisticated.
Even the drum tracks sounded like a computer generated beat with no soul.
Maybe I'm just getting old but it seems to me
that the artists with real talent were in the 60s, 70s and some of the 80s.
The people and the music today seems like it's made of plastic
out of a blow molding machine -
disposable like everything else.
