I applied once about 10 years ago after losing a long term job
but they wouldn't give me anything.
They had a book called 1001 reasons not to pay anyone a penny
and they found plenty of reasons not to pay me.
One of them was that I had too much money in the bank.

when you own your own place and don't have to pay rent -
it's easy to save a lot of money.
I got another job not long after and bought a house -
I paid 90% of it in cash. ( after selling my place)
