ALDI named best supermarket of the year in Roy Morgan Customer Satisfaction Award

The 2023 supermarket of the year has been named.
ALDI has been named the best Australian supermarket for meeting customer satisfaction and trust, based on a survey.

Research and statistics company Roy Morgan released its annual Customer Satisfaction Award with 38 winners from industries such as retail, finance and telecommunications.

The awards rate customer satisfaction of more than 280 brands based on surveys conducted between January to December 2023.

More than 60,000 customers are surveyed overall and a sample size of at least 100 customers is required for a brand to be part of the awards.

In the supermarket category, more than 33,000 people were surveyed about Coles, Woolworths, Aldi, Foodland and IGA.

Winner, ALDI Australia, said it delivered $3.4 billion in savings to Australians in 2023.

ALDI Australia group director Simon Padovani-Ginies said the “win is a reflection of ALDI’s ongoing commitment to providing Aussie shoppers with high-quality products at the lowest possible prices”.

“This is the fourth consecutive year that we’ve received the award and, at a time when shoppers are continuously seeking better value, we have never been more aware of the need to continue to deliver on our promise to offer Aussies the highest quality products at the lowest possible prices,” he said.

For the Customer Satisfaction Awards, Roy Morgan’s survey asks respondents to rate the product or service they received on a scale of “very satisfied” to “not at all satisfied”.

Roy Morgan chief executive officer Michele Levine said the respondents are asked to give their “honest, unvarnished” opinions.

“Each month, we calculate monthly customer satisfaction winners in each of the categories as the year unfolds, and the annual award goes to the company with the most monthly wins,” Levine said.

Commonwealth Bank was awarded best major bank, RAA won general insurer of the year, Myer was voted the best department store and Aussie Broadband best internet service provider.

Coles and Woolworths aren't much better, but at least they aren't as anti-union as Aldi.

Aldi accused of ‘deliberate’ wage theft worth $150m

Supermarket group Aldi has been accused of deliberately underpaying more than 20,000 current and former workers more than $150 million through unpaid work.

The Shop Distributive and Allied Employees Association launched the class action in the Federal Court on Friday, alleging that Aldi breached workplace laws over six years by requiring its store employees to work up to 30 minutes before their shift without pay.

I was in Aldi today and unfortunately witnessed a very disturbed woman abusing anyone she looked at.

Staff didn’t call either security or police.

I left without purchasing.

Given recent events and my own encounter today with a obviously mentally ill shopper I’m strictly shopping online until shopping centres and businesses begin to take their duty of care to customers seriously!

any survey. Satisfaction is a very subjective metric.

Obviously, people who make a specific effort to shop at Aldi
will show far more loyalty to the brand than people who shop
at Coles or Woolworths—who don't show that same degree of
brand loyalty. Aldi shoppers invariably extol their experience
of shopping at Aldi, whereas Coles and Woolworths shoppers
seldom do.

Incidentally, I would never shop at Aldi. For a number of reasons.

• Limited range of fruit and vegetables, again, source undisclosed,

• Reluctance to carry well-known local branded products,
• Lack of express queues,

• Needs coin and/or token to use trolleys,
• Charge for recyclable plastic bags (free at Foodworks),

• No individual store telephone number and/or email (HO only),
• Aldi Australia owned by German Albrecht family, as largest shareholders,

• Will not home deliver (as per Coles and Woolworths),
• Aldi is not publicly traded—no financials access.
