under qld law, he can fish in marine sanctuaries as long as he has the permision of the traditional owners. they get to determine who can fish those waters (including for turtle or dugong) and , obviously dont allow commercial fishing but would allow fishing and hunting for personal and family use

Yeah the elders are the traditional owners ... pretty sure they're supposed to give permission.

in general the fishing is getting better because the green zones are fairly extensive

and , so many young people prefer netflix and tiktok to going out on the water

there just dont seem to be as many boats out there as there used to be.

traditional owners dont really worry me

fraser island , for example, i would not visit as it is over run with tourists

giving it back to the indigenous is fine by me

they would always allow some people to visit and i have pretty good understanding and would get a pass.

yobbos who want to drink beer and speed about in SUV's can go elsewhere.
that sort of behaviour (speeding about in SUV's is more suited to sudanese in stolen sante fe's )
